High Goals Kill Motivation! It's Okay to Have Low Aspirations
Do you set "goals" for yourself?
I want to reach 10,000 monthly PV!
I want to reach 1,000 followers!
I want to earn 1 million yen a month!
Everyone has
different goals, I think.
Often in self-help books,
"Set high goals"
"Have high aspirations"
is what they say.
High goals, high aspirations
are they really necessary?
I don't think they are.
Why?
This time,
to succeed,
you don't need high goals or high aspirations.
That is the topic.
Setting goals doesn't guarantee success
"Set high goals"
"Have high aspirations"
This in itself is by no means a bad thing.
Well, obviously it's better to have them than not.
Yeah, I won't deny that.
However,
"Successful people succeeded because they set high goals."
It is easy to fall into that misunderstanding.
Among those who set high goals, there are both
people who succeeded and
people who did not succeed.
This is a point you must not look away from!
"I will become a professional baseball player!"
Many young players set this goal, but there are also many who do not become professional baseball players.
"I will become fluent in English!"
Many people attend English conversation schools with this goal, but there are also many who never become fluent.
Setting a high goal does not mean you will succeed.
That is not how it works.
So, what is the factor that separates those who succeed from those who do not?
It is simply
whether or not you took action to succeed.
That is all.
Continuing with the right method
What determines whether you succeed or not is
not whether you have high goals.
Acting in the right way,
and whether you continue to do so.
This is it.
Even if you have high goals,
even if you have high ambitions,
if you act using the wrong method, you will not succeed..
If you quit halfway, you will not succeed..
"Huh? Isn't that obvious?"
You think that, right?
But you know.
Even though we know it, this is the trap we fall into.
Even if you set high goals,
you can't act in the right way,
you can't keep it up,
there are overwhelmingly more people who say that.
Why is that?
I think this is
the fault of high goals.
Do goals kill motivation?
What do you think is the number one reason why people can't keep things going?
The gap between the ideal and reality.
Even if you want to earn 1 million yen a month,
if you are only earning 10,000 yen a month right now,
what would you think?
"Oh, maybe I don't have the sense for this."
"Maybe this isn't for me."
"I'm so over this."
"It's so hard."
That's what happens, right?
The distance to the ideal is too far,
and you start to think it's an impossible game.
Because it's an impossible game, you quit.
That's a natural way of thinking.
In other words, high goals
strengthen the feeling that it's an impossible game,
and make you lose your motivation.
That's why I
don't think you need high goals.
Low goals that you can likely achieve are enough.
Once you achieve that, set the next goal.
While repeating that,
before you know it, you've reached a high level.
That way, you can keep going without strain.
First, let's earn 1 yen!
↓
Alright, I earned 1 yen. Next, let's earn 10,000 yen!
↓
Alright, next let's earn 100,000 yen!
↓
Alright, next...
↓
Huh? Before I knew it, I reached 1 million yen!
It's something like this^^
Strong action is better than high goals
You don't need high goals.
What's important is strong action.
What successful people have in common is that they consistently take action to succeed.
To accomplish things,
in the end, there is only action.
If you want to see the view from the summit,
you have no choice but to keep moving forward toward it.
Decide what to do in this very moment
and focus entirely on it.
That is all.
If you want to become a professional baseball player,
decide on the practice you will do today,
and complete that practice.
If you want to earn 1 million yen,
decide what you will do today,
and finish it by the end of the day.
Focus entirely on what is right in front of you.
This accumulation creates the future
and leads to success.
This is no time to be worrying
about the gap between your goals and reality.
If you have time for that,
take a step, or even half a step,
and move forward!
It's okay for your goals and aspirations to be low.
If high goals
undermine your motivation
to keep going,
they are meaningless.
Set goals that you can achieve
and definitely take action!
Action is everything.^^
