Just because it's popular doesn't mean it's good!
This time, I'm presenting a topic called
“Just because it's popular doesn't mean it's good!”
I basically stay at home and
I'm not very interested in what's going on in the world, so
I hardly know anything about trends, but
well, whether it's products or anything else,
one "new thing" after another is
being born, isn't it?
New things are
glamorously advertised,
spread by influencers,
and catch our eyes.
And then, some products
become "trendy items."
And we think like this.
"Since it's so popular,
it must be good!"
Is that really true?
Just because it's new or popular,
doesn't it mean it's not necessarily
truly valuable?
That's what this story is about.
Yamaha's teaching materials are surprisingly old-fashioned
My daughter
attends Yamaha Music School.
Lessons are conducted according to
original textbooks, but
as supplementary materials,
video materials are also provided.
And these video materials are
surprisingly old-fashioned (lol).
The aspect ratio of the video is 4:3.
Since they added images to the left and right,
it's technically 16:9,
but the content itself is still 4:3.
On top of that,
there are no elaborate effects,
and the image quality is grainy... (lol).
Compared to recent anime,
it's overwhelmingly plain,
and with such rough image quality,
it even makes you feel
nostalgic.
However!
My child watches it intently,
and repeats it over and over again.
"Daddy, I want to see it again."
"Play that song for me!"
They say things like that and
enjoy the videos to their heart's content.
Living in the digital age,
we tend to seek out things like
high image quality or
elaborate effects,
but the essence of content
isn't really about that...
I'm realizing that all over again.
Speaking of Yamaha's teaching materials,
the skills to be mastered don't change, so
what needs to be conveyed through those materials doesn't change either.
If the essence of the teaching material hasn't changed,
even if the image quality isn't high,
even without elaborate effects,
and even if the aspect ratio is 4:3,
it still gets the message across properly.
Don't be misled by new things.
The environment surrounding modern people
is evolving at a pace of daily progress... no, hourly progress,
or even faster.
New things are being created
one after another.
New things are
advertised glitteringly,
spread by influencers,
and catch our eyes.
And we think to ourselves:
"Since it's so popular,
it must be good!"
I think we need to be careful
about this way of thinking.
Up until now,
there have been countless
new things and popular things,
but there are almost no things
that have remained for years or decades.
f^^
I'm not saying that new things
or popular things are bad.
I'm saying it's better not to
blindly over-trust them as "good things."
If you want to cultivate the discernment
to identify what is truly valuable,
I recommend that you try not to
jump on new or popular things
right away.
Taakun
P.S.
The same goes for the
information products flooding the internet.
Methods using the latest technology or
ways to make money easily are
circulating, but
most of them are
nothing more than
fleeting know-how
that can only be used temporarily.
The essence of making money
hasn't changed since long ago.
Things like what people pay money for or
how people's minds work when they buy things
those things,
the fundamental parts never change at all.
That is why, without being swayed by trends,
mastering the principles and essence
is the secret to
earning a long-term, stable income.
