The story of how my daughter, who had a 40°C fever, urged me to 'write a note'
Today, I will talk about the theme of
“if you share what you are working on with someone,
they will push you forward when the time comes.”
I basically
intend to update my note
every day.
For me,
updating my note is a daily routine, so
between my daughter and me,
writing a note article
is called 'homework'.
As for that 'homework',
well, of course,
there are days when I think it's a hassle or
I just don't feel motivated.
And yesterday was exactly
a 'not feeling motivated' day,
so I kept putting it off.
If anything,
I was even thinking, 'Maybe I'll just post a short tweet today'.
Before I knew it, it was evening,
and my daughter came home.
Usually,
we do school homework
together, but
yesterday, somehow
my daughter seemed off.
As soon as she got home,
she said she was 'sleepy'
and collapsed onto the sofa.
I thought, 'That's strange,'
and when I touched her body,
it was super hot!
When I took her temperature,
it was 40°C! ( Д ) ゚ ゚
I rushed her to the hospital,
and after the examination,
it turned out to be an ear infection.
If you take the medicine and rest,
you'll be fine.
Since that's what they said,
she took her medicine immediately after getting home
and lay down on the futon.
After a while,
I could hear the sound of
sobbing.
Me: 'What's wrong? Are you in pain?'
Daughter: 'No.'
Me: 'Are you hungry?'
Daughter: 'No.'
Me: 'Does something hurt? Are you feeling bad?'
Daughter: 'It doesn't hurt. I don't feel bad.'
Me: 'Are you lonely? Do you want a hug?'
Daughter: 'No.'
Me: 'Hmm???'
Daughter: 'You haven't done your homework'
Me: '(✽ ゚д゚ ✽) Huh?'
You, you have a 40-degree
fever, you know?
You must be suffering from the fever.
Your head must be foggy.
You must be feeling lonely.
To think that
you were worried about my homework...
Dad takes his hat off to you.
Me: 'It's okay if you don't do your homework.'
Daughter: 'No, I want to do my homework.'
Me: 'You have a fever, so let's rest.'
Daughter: 'But if I don't do it... *sniff*'
Me: 'Then let's do it together once your fever goes down.'
Daughter: 'Okay. I understand. I'll definitely do it.'
Me: 'That's fine. Goodnight.'
It was amazing, or perhaps
pure, I should say,
and I truly felt humbled by her.
Today, I
had no fever,
and nothing was wrong with me,
yet I was trying to slack off on my own homework.
Meanwhile, my daughter was running a high fever of 40°C,
and even though she was bedridden with illness,
she was trying to do her homework.
(My daughter, your daddy was a fool.)
As I looked at her face with that thought in mind,
my daughter suddenly snapped her eyes open.
And then...
Daughter: 'Did you do your homework, Daddy?'
Me: 'Oh, no, not yet.'
Daughter: 'Let's do it together later.'
((((;゚Д゚)))) *shiver*
I'm honestly so sorry.
Even though I'm always saying,
'Do your homework!'
I'm sorry for trying to slack off on my own.
I never imagined that
my daughter, running a 40°C fever,
would spur me on in such a way.
I had been calling my note updates 'homework'
to get my daughter to do her own homework,
but I never expected it to come back to me.
And so,
after watching over my daughter until she fell asleep,
I eagerly headed to my PC.
The factor that hinders consistency
is usually the feeling that something is a hassle.
There are times when you just can't overcome your own desires
or feelings of laziness.
At times like that, having family
who gives you a little push on the back
is something to be very grateful for.
When it's difficult to stay consistent on your own,
telling someone, 'I'm doing this,'
might actually be quite important.
