I do not believe the SpaceX IPO should be viewed merely as a large-scale public offering.
It is an event that questions how much credit the capital markets can create for future space infrastructure.

As humanity's sphere of activity expands to low Earth orbit, the Moon, and Mars, who will support the necessary communications, computing resources, energy, payments, credit, legal systems, and value recording mechanisms, and how?
The SpaceX IPO seems to be confronting us with that very question.

The space economy is transitioning from a 'dream' to 'industrial infrastructure'
The World Economic Forum and McKinsey predict that the global space economy will grow from approximately $630 billion in 2023 to $1.8 trillion by 2035.
The important point is that the space economy is no longer just about rockets and satellites.
Communications, positioning, navigation, and timing synchronization, Earth observation, defense, AI, cloud, orbital data centers, lunar and Martian infrastructure, and resource utilization.
And, future extraterrestrial economic activities.
Space is no longer a distant frontier; it is becoming the foundation that supports terrestrial industries, national security, finance, and the data economy.
NASA also announced that Moon to Mars-related activities alone generated over $23.8 billion in economic impact and supported approximately 96,000 jobs in fiscal year 2023. Across the entire agency, NASA supports over $75.6 billion in economic impact and more than 300,000 jobs.
In other words, space development has already moved from the realm of dreams and national prestige to an infrastructure industry that drives the real economy.
What the SpaceX IPO signifies
Reuters reports that SpaceX aims to raise $75 billion in an IPO, targeting a valuation of around $1.75 trillion. Furthermore, it is described as an 'all-primary offering' where the entire amount goes to the company, which is a structure where the capital markets directly support SpaceX's future investments rather than serving as an exit for existing shareholders.
This is the crucial part.
If this were merely a sale by existing shareholders, the IPO would have a stronger character as a 'liquidity event'.
However, if it is a large-scale IPO where funds go into the company, this is an act where the market provides credit to future business at the present moment.
Starship.
Starlink.
Reusable rockets.
Low Earth orbit satellite constellations.
Orbital AI data centers.
Lunar and Martian infrastructure.
These cannot all be evaluated based on current profits alone. Rather, the question is how much credit the capital markets can create in advance for the infrastructure of future civilization.
In that sense, the SpaceX IPO is not just a fundraising effort.
It is a credit creation event for future infrastructure.
Why existing finance is not enough
The space economy has characteristics that are incompatible with existing finance.
First, the investment recovery period is long
Rockets, satellites, ground stations, lunar bases, and Martian infrastructure are areas that are difficult to evaluate based on short-term cash flow alone.
Second, technical risk is high
There are risks different from general industries, such as launch failures, development delays, regulations, security, space debris, and communication latency.
Third, national security and private business overlap
Low Earth orbit satellite constellations are private communications, but they are also infrastructure for military, defense, disaster response, and geopolitics.
Fourth, legal jurisdictions become complex
It goes beyond borders on Earth and will eventually expand to the Moon, Mars, and orbit—outside the judicial jurisdictions that traditional financial systems have taken for granted.
Fifth, the design of payments and credit becomes difficult
Between Earth and Mars, communication delays occur on the scale of minutes to tens of minutes. It is difficult to simply import real-time bank payments or centralized clearing systems.
In other words, when the space economy goes into full swing, it is not just rockets that will be needed.
Who will create the credit?
Which protocol will record the value?
In which sphere will settlement occur?
Which system will handle disputes?
Which currency will be the standard?
Including all of this, the design of space infrastructure is necessary.
Research viewing Bitcoin as an interplanetary credit protocol
In this context, there is some very interesting research.
Published in 2025, the paper “Bitcoin as an Interplanetary Monetary Standard with Proof-of-Transit Timestamping” examines whether Bitcoin can be used as a common currency standard between Earth and Mars.
This paper does not simply suggest that we should just use Bitcoin on Mars.
There is physical communication latency between Earth and Mars.
Communication is not always connected, but intermittent.
In this environment, real-time settlement as we know it on Earth is difficult to achieve.
Therefore, the paper proposes a concept that combines DTN (Delay/Disruption-Tolerant Networking), optical LEO meshes, long-term Lightning channels, planet-specific watchtowers, federated sidechains, and blind-merge-mined commit chains.
The important point is a design that does not modify the Bitcoin L1, but maintains Bitcoin on the Earth side as the ultimate value recording and settlement foundation, while enabling local settlement and block generation on the Mars side.
In other words, Bitcoin is not just a speculative asset, but could potentially play the following roles:
Non-state value recording.
A monetary foundation with a supply cap.
A verifiable ledger.
Tamper-resistant timestamping.
A settlement and clearing layer that is auditable even in high-latency environments.
I think this can be expressed in a word as an interplanetary credit protocol.
The SpaceX IPO is an experiment in how the market evaluates the future
The SpaceX IPO is also a high-risk event for investors.
The valuation is extremely high.
Expectations for future earnings are also significant.
There is also much uncertainty, such as dependence on government contracts, connections to AI businesses, and plans for orbital data centers.
However, this IPO still has historical significance.
This is because the capital market is attempting to price not just 'current profits,' but 'future civilization infrastructure.'
Railways, electricity, telecommunications, the internet, cloud, and AI.
Human infrastructure has always had credit created first, followed by implementation as a real industry.
Space infrastructure may be the same.

And beyond that, there is a redesign not only of rockets, but of communications, AI, data centers, payments, credit, currency, and value recording.
