What, still on Earth?
The logistics warehouse where I work is four stories high. Don't underestimate it just because it's four stories. Since the fourth floor of a commercial warehouse is equivalent to the eighth floor of a regular building, it's quite high. The ceiling height is eight meters, and the forklifts we use are high-mast reach types. To increase storage efficiency, you inevitably need 'height,' so I assume this is standard for logistics warehouses.
The first floor has a lot of traffic from trucks and people, so it doesn't bother me much, but working on the second floor or higher is quite lonely. Especially on the night shift, we have a quick meeting at the start, and everything else is done via radio. It's not uncommon to work silently and almost entirely alone.
Although there are small windows that are there just for show, we never open them. If we open them, we might forget to close them, and we keep them shut to prevent insects from getting in and to protect the cargo (like cardboard boxes) from damage caused by humidity.
During the night shift, I suddenly think to myself:
'If I looked out the window right now, Earth might be gone, and space would be spread out before me.'
That's how isolated from the outside world this environment is.
The other day, just past 3:00 AM during a night shift, I felt like opening a window. It was surprisingly pitch black, and I could see the faint light of scattered stars.
—As I thought, space is spread out there.
I thought that in all seriousness. However, when I looked closely, it was just streetlights, light leaking from someone's window, or traffic lights working tirelessly...
It was nothing more than the night scenery of the countryside, I realized.
—What, I'm still on Earth.
I felt a mix of disappointment and relief.
I often see the tag '{#WhatAreYouTalkingAbout,' so I tried writing this. Honestly, it really feels like, 'What are you talking about?'... (;^_^A
