Can I get prescription polarized glasses at Zoff?
The polarized glasses dilemma, a struggle for those who wear glasses
While there are polarized glasses at every price point, the fact that they become expensive once you add a prescription is a struggle for those of us who wear glasses.
Until now, I've been using a clip-on type I bought on Amazon, attached to my own glasses. This was fine for what it was. It's cheap, lightweight, and convenient because I can flip it up when tying tippets.
However, while it wasn't a problem during the day on sunny days, it was too dark to see in deep valley spots on cloudy days or in the evening. If I took them off, the water surface glare made it impossible to see.
I want Ease Green...
When it comes to prescription polarized lenses, TALEX is probably the gold standard.
I don't really understand the system for having them made, but it seems like the lenses alone cost over 30,000 yen.
I've heard that a color called "Ease Green" is bright and easy to see through, though...
Looking at the data, it does have a polarization degree (glare cut rate) of 90% and a visible light transmittance of 40%, so it seems to be a relatively bright polarized lens.
TALEX also has a clip-on type! But it only comes in the "Trueview" color. And it costs 19,800 yen.
Zoff, the friend of the budget-conscious!
I usually wear Zoff glasses too.
I heard that the lenses in the KNIGHT & DAY series released by Zoff also have polarization functionality.
I didn't have high expectations for the performance, but at 8,800 yen, I thought it might be worth it if I just considered them new glasses.
However! When I looked into it, aren't they high-performance?
Polarization degree (glare cut rate) 99%, visible light transmittance 41%
It beats Ease Green! Is that for real?
Note: That said, I don't think it outperforms it in every aspect. There must be many other factors that determine how easy a lens is to see through.
You won't know if they're good until you actually use them.
So, this was a story about how this might be a product worth trying.
The problem is whether I should buy them right at the end of the season.
Also, you can't choose lenses with this level of performance (bright polarized lenses) for regular sunglasses at Zoff; it seems this is the only product that offers them.
