Breaking the 'Three-Day Habit'! The Secret to Making Writing a Habit is Balancing 'Relaxing & Elevating'
I never imagined that I, who could never stick to anything, would one day be asked, 'Do you have any tips for keeping up with writing on note?'
I am the most surprised person of all.
I tried various superficial techniques like setting goals or scheduling writing times, but I lost count of how many times I felt a vague sense of dissatisfaction.
That's when I realized that the biggest reason for not being able to stick with something is, in the first place, mental.
In today's note, I would like to write about the secret to making writing a habit that I discovered while continuing to write on note for over 750 days: how to balance 'relaxing & elevating'.
Recommended relaxing actions when you're stuck
'Feeling down by comparing yourself to others'
'Lacking motivation'
'Can't find anything to write about'
These are the times when you are stuck.
The more stuck you are, the more likely you are to rush into inputting information, but it is important to empty your mind.
Spacing out in the bath
Even though you are constantly turning thoughts over in your head wondering if there is anything to write about, nothing comes to mind.
When this happens, thinking about it any further won't bring anything up.
Let's take the plunge and try spacing out.
Having said that, it takes quite a bit of courage to space out during such precious time, doesn't it?
Why not decide that the time in the bath is the only time you allow your mind to be free?
Giving yourself a head massage
Since you don't have much time, let's give yourself a head massage while spacing out in the bath.
I feel like ideas might pop up when my head is relaxed, but is it just me?
That 'feeling' is actually an important point.
Doing yoga
When you're stuck, your breathing tends to become shallow.
If oxygen isn't reaching your brain, it won't function properly.
Do some yoga, correct your posture, and deepen your breathing.
Creating time to relax can help ideas come to you as if by magic when you've been stuck, so please give it a try.
Recommended 'boosting' actions for when things get tough
'Writing is painful'
'I can't enjoy it'
'I don't want to write out of a sense of obligation'
In the case of freelance writing projects, it's work, so of course you have to write no matter how tough it gets.
However, when it comes to things you do without being asked, like writing on Note or posting on X, the thought 'maybe I should just quit' might cross your mind sometimes.
At times like that, I've found that doing something that genuinely excites me reignites my desire to write.
Look at your 'things to do' list in your planner
Please make sure to write down things you want to do whenever you feel like you want to do them.
A 'things to do' list acts as gasoline when your engine won't start.
Whoever feels the most excitement about what they want to do wins.
Daydream about your ideal lifestyle
Daydreaming about your ideal lifestyle is free, fun, and boosts your mood, so I highly recommend it.
If the habit you want to build aligns with achieving your ideal lifestyle, your motivation will likely increase through daydreaming.
Watch interviews of people who are living out what you want to do
My recommendation is the YouTube video series 'Unto mo Sun to mo Biyori'.
After watching interviews of people who have turned their passions into their work, my motivation goes up, and I think, 'Alright! I'll do my best too!'
Summary
I think it's surely difficult to keep working recklessly hard all the time.
That is precisely why knowing how to ride the waves of your mood, rather than being swallowed by them, will allow you to take control of yourself.
What are your 'relaxing & boosting' actions? I would be happy if you could let me know.
Thank you very much for reading until the end despite your busy schedule.
I will continue to do my best, so your likes, comments, and follows would be a great encouragement.
