Tips for doing more than you think.
I have so many things I want to do, yet my list of unachieved goals keeps growing.
While spending my days like that, I realized that I was looking with envy at other working moms who were steadily turning their ideas into reality, assuming they must just be very capable at their jobs.
That was two years ago.
I reminded myself that everyone has the same 24 hours, that no one achieves things overnight, and that everyone is just going through trial and error by stacking up small steps, so I vowed to start doing what I could right now.
Two years have passed since then, and I am finally on the verge of achieving one of my goals: publishing on Kindle. (It's at a snail's pace, but this is my own pace.)
Even after I first decided I wanted to publish on Kindle, there were many days when my manuscript didn't progress, so I broke down what I could do now into very, very small pieces.
This is the secret to doing more than you think.
I kept asking myself, 'What can I do right now?' starting from the goal of publishing on Kindle, and I made a conscious effort to move my hands rather than my head, no matter how small the task.
・Think about the book's structure
・Write articles on note based on the structure I thought of
・Declare on note that my goal is to publish on Kindle
・When I have enough note articles, incorporate them into the Kindle manuscript
・Read books about Kindle publishing
・Send inquiry emails to people I want to ask for editing
・Research people who can create covers ← Currently here
Here is the note article where I made the declaration.
First, try doing the things you want to challenge yourself with. Then, use the experience gained from that for the next step.
I believe it is important to keep planting seeds like that—not just for Kindle publishing, but for anything—even if you don't know if they will sprout.
The books I read regarding Kindle publishing were the two by Kuromega-san and Milk-san.
They are written carefully and clearly, even for Kindle publishing beginners.
And Kuromega-san is the one I asked to edit my manuscript, and I am very grateful for their help.
Their advice, suggestions, and red-pen corrections are just so precise. At first, I was thinking of writing it myself and publishing it as is, but I am so glad I didn't do that.
Actually, looking at the finished manuscript, I don't think I would have had the courage to do that at all.
I forgot who said it, but I feel like I finally understand the meaning of the words, 'You can't create something good alone, whether it's a book or a manga.'
There is still more to do before publication, so I can't say 'It will be released on X month X day!' just yet, but the feeling of moving forward little by little makes me very happy.
I will do my best so that many people can pick it up.
