Yesterday, I accompanied the president on a sales call. — A record of how I faced my nerves on the 'effective final day' of my promotion exam
Yesterday, I accompanied the president on a sales call.
Currently, I am taking a promotion exam.
The deadline is January 21, 2026.
I personally considered yesterday's visit to be the
effective final exam in terms of both the schedule and the content.
To be honest,
I was incredibly nervous.
The version of me who used to try 'not to be nervous'
Until a little while ago,
whenever I got nervous, I always thought like this.
I must not be nervous
I must stay calm
I must do things properly
But the more I thought this way,
the more my body stiffened and my mind went blank.
I think I had decided that
'being nervous equals being in a bad state'.
What I decided in advance this time
For this sales visit,
I had decided on just one policy.
Do not try to eliminate the nervousness. Focus on 'functioning' while still being nervous.
Do not aim for perfect responses.
Do not try too hard to be evaluated.
All I had to do was just this.
Listen to the other party properly
Convey what I understand sincerely
Say I don't know when I don't know
Nothing more, nothing less.
The nervousness didn't go away. But...
On the day, I was naturally nervous.
I think my voice was a bit shaky, and
my heart rate was high.
But, strangely enough,
I didn't feel like I was going to break.
I think it's because I didn't
forcefully suppress the 'nervous version of myself'.
What I realized: Nerves were not the 'enemy'
Through this experience, I realized something clearly.
Nerves were not a 'sign of failure',
but a 'sign that I was truly committed'.
Precisely because I was nervous,
I chose my words carefully, watched the other person's reactions, and
tried to speak with care.
If I hadn't been nervous at all,
I might have been more careless.
What was more important than the result
Whether I get promoted or not,
honestly, I still don't know.
But I can say one thing:
Even though I was nervous, I finished without breaking.
For me, this was
a very big step forward.
To you, who are feeling nervous
If there is anyone right now
who is nervous before an important moment,
I just want to tell you this.
It is okay to be nervous
It is okay if your hands shake
It is okay not to be perfect
'Facing things sincerely while remaining nervous'
—just by doing that, people can truly move forward.
