What inspired me to pursue fashion.
Sustainable Gang currently has two main members.
One is the person writing this text, the one in charge of ideas who mainly updates this note, me (Midori), and the one in charge of fashion, Matsui.
He is also in charge of my outfits, and I leave everything related to Sustainable Gang's fashion to him.
He wrote about the process of how he came to pursue fashion, so please take a read!
Hello! I'm the one in charge of fashion at Sustainable Gang!
This article is a bit of a departure from Sustainable Gang, so if you have some time, please feel free to read it as a light break. lol
Rather than just liking fashion, I am grateful for it.
Going back to my first year of junior high school.
I didn't have confidence in my appearance and had the experience of being bullied by my classmates.
I vividly remember the words the class leader threw at me: "You always wear the same clothes, you're so uncool!"
At that age, right in the middle of puberty, being told something about wanting to be popular or about my personal grooming cut deeper than anything else anyone could have said.
I went home, immediately bowed my head to my parents, and made a promise to receive 10,000 yen for clothes each season. But here was the problem.
I didn't know how to be stylish.
It was hard to say that my family was wealthy,
(Thinking back now, I'm surprised I was able to get 10,000 yen every season lol)
I didn't even have a smartphone back then, and I couldn't afford to spend money on magazines...
What I came up with was to watch stylish people in the city.
From then on, almost every week, I would take the train alone to Umeda or Amerikamura, and with a drink bought from a vending machine in one hand, I would spend the whole day observing people's outfits in front of HEP or at Sankaku Park.
I would feel, "Oh, that's cool, that combination is amazing!" and then I would go around to clothing stores, buy clothes, go home, try them on in front of the mirror, and have a one-man fashion show. That's how I spent my days off. lol
I had never been able to stick with any lessons or club activities in my life, but this was the only hobby I could get obsessed with.
Then, two years passed.
Gradually, the kids in my class started to recognize that I liked clothes, and the leader who had called me uncool back then said, "Can you pick out some clothes for me next weekend?" That moment was the catalyst for me to grow a little bigger than I had been before.
And that is how I became a fashion nut. lol
If I have another opportunity, I'll talk about things other than clothes too! lol
Currently, I pick up trash once a week based in Osaka!
I pick up trash while wearing clothes I like, chatting, and taking a casual walk, so I'm always looking for companions, so please feel free to reach out!
