To You Who Keep Studying: A Ray of Light Piercing the Darkness — Lessons from Morning Activities
“I don’t feel like I’m making any progress at all…”
“Will I ever really be able to understand this?…”
When you keep studying, there are definitely times when you feel this way. I was the same. Especially in the beginning, I really didn’t feel any growth.
Things I thought I had memorized yesterday completely slipped out of my head the next day. Whether I read the textbook or solved the practice problems, it was all Greek to me.
For example, when I first started studying bookkeeping, I was unfamiliar with the account titles and couldn’t remember them, and even though I had to use those accounts to make journal entries, I didn’t even know how to go about doing those entries.
Even if I thought I understood while studying, I was stunned when I tried to do the practice problems without looking at anything. There were times when I couldn’t visualize anything, my hands stopped, and I didn’t understand a single thing.
“Is it really okay to go on like this?…”
“Am I going about this the wrong way?…”
A time when you feel like you’re about to be crushed by anxiety and impatience. A feeling like wandering blindly through a darkness with no exit.
“Won’t it be the same even if I go through the reference book three times?”
“Do I just lack the sense for studying in the first place?”
“I don’t want to blame my age, but is my ability to memorize declining?”
I was caught in such a negative spiral. The day after I studied, I couldn’t solve the same problems. My hands wouldn’t move. I would solve problems while looking at the answers, but I also had the anxiety that I might have forgotten it all by tomorrow.
You who are reading this far, haven’t you had similar experiences?
In this article, I would like to talk about the ray of light that waits beyond the darkness, which I experienced while continuing to study through morning activities.
Although these are lessons I gained through studying bookkeeping and FP, I believe this is an experience that applies to studying in any field.
The moment when the dots connect will surely come
When you keep studying, there comes a moment when the knowledge and information that were scattered until then connect all at once. As if by magic, there comes a moment when you suddenly understand what you couldn’t understand before.
It is a shocking moment, like a ray of light piercing through the darkness.
“Ah, so that’s what it was!”
A feeling of realization. The knowledge that had been scattered until now is connected by lines, and the overall picture becomes visible in your mind. The emotion at that time can only be understood by the person who keeps studying.
In my case, I experienced this while studying bookkeeping and FP. When I repeated past exam questions many times, when I thought for myself and moved my hands to reach the answer, and when I solved problems by connecting the knowledge in my head, suddenly, I understood the entire flow.
“So this is what it was!” A moment when all the connections became clear, just like puzzle pieces clicking into place.
There is a bookkeeping maxim that says, “He who masters journal entries masters bookkeeping,” and I realized that if you can make journal entries quickly and accurately, you can handle even difficult problems. I realized that if you can make all journal entries accurately, you can handle any problem that comes up.
Hands moving unconsciously — before thinking with the head —
When the dots connect, strangely enough, your hands start moving unconsciously. The moment you read a problem, the way to solve it pops into your head, and your hands start moving naturally.
This is similar to the feeling of riding a bicycle. At first, you were desperately trying to balance while almost falling over many times, but before you knew it, you were riding smoothly without thinking about anything.
Studying was the same. Problems that I had to think about carefully one by one at first, before I knew it, my hands were moving unconsciously. That is proof that the effort has soaked into your body and become your own.
Personally, in bookkeeping, if my hands stop or I hesitate the moment I see a problem, the probability of getting it wrong becomes abnormally high. Time is also cut away, and impatience sets in. I solved past questions many times, engraved the solving methods into my head, and raised my ability until I could react unconsciously. I think if you can reach a passing score regardless of the situation of the past exam scores, you have gained considerable ability.
The concentration brought by morning activities — there is only here —
I believe I was able to have this experience thanks to morning activities. In the first place, before I started morning activities, I didn’t even feel like studying.
As a result of thinking about what I should do during my morning activity time in my own way, the motivation to get qualifications and study was born, even though no one told me to do anything. If you move on your own, concentration will naturally follow.
The quiet time in the morning can maximize your concentration. There is no noise around you, and you can listen to your inner voice. It is as if a lighthouse is shining in the darkness, guiding you, who are about to get lost, in the right direction.
By doing morning activities, I gained peace of mind and was able to study calmly. As a result, I think the knowledge was firmly established, and I was able to welcome the moment when the dots connected.
To you who keep studying
If you are currently studying and suffering because you cannot feel the results, please do not give up.
I am the same.
In the early stages of studying, you don't know left from right, so you don't even know if you are heading in the right direction.
But it is precisely because you believe in yourself and do what needs to be done now that you can make course corrections.
First, finish one round of the exam syllabus. It doesn't matter at all if your level of understanding is low. You can just repeat it as many times as you need. If you have doubts or anxieties, just keep working until they disappear.
Imagine yourself smiling and let's move forward again today.
Morning activities should be a powerful ally for that. This experience is a special feeling that only you, who continue to study, can truly understand.
Failure is not failure; it only ends when you quit. Continue as many times as you need. Keep trying until you succeed.
The moment when the dots of knowledge connect to form a single line is definitely waiting for you.
That is all for this time.
Thank you for reading until the end.
