My thoughts on "strengths" and two ways to discover them.
In my coaching sessions, I use a tool called
"Brain Tendency Diagnosis".
Whether you want to study something,
get along well with others,
or achieve a goal
in situations like those,
what is the easiest and
most efficient way for you to do things?
By knowing your "unique" strengths,
and knowing how to leverage those strengths,
I help you
manage your daily life, parenting, and work
more easily and lightly.
So, what exactly are these "strengths"?
Today, I would like to write about these "strengths".
What is a strength?
When people hear the word "strength," many likely
imagine abilities they have acquired or
skills used to produce results.
It feels like a
special ability that you excel at more than others and can confidently say you are good at.
I think the "strengths" you answer with when asked "What are your strengths?" in a job interview fall into this category.
Even if you look it up in a dictionary,
1 Being strong. Also, the degree of that. ("Increasing further—") ⇔ weakness.
2 A point worth relying on. ("His language proficiency is his —") ⇔ weakness.
It shows that both "1" and "2" are things that are superior compared to "someone else" or "other things."
So, what are you comparing them to?
I believe that "strengths" are things you find by comparing within yourself.
【 I am better at and prefer method ▲ over method ◯ 】
This is what can be called a person's strength.
For example, based on my brain's tendencies,
-
I can exert more energy when the perspective of 'for someone else' is added, rather than just focusing on numerical goals or the team.
I can work harder when I have a sense of conviction rather than just having a goal.
I prefer one-on-one interactions or time alone rather than being with large groups.
I can maintain my momentum if I have time to think alone periodically.I am good at empathizing with people's emotions.
These are my 'strengths'.
These were not identified by comparing myself to others, but by comparing my own thought patterns and behavioral patterns, and in that way,
/
'Within myself,' these are things I am good at and enjoy, is what I think a strength is.
\
I believe that is what we call a strength.
If you try to utilize 'strengths compared to others,' there is always someone better, and since it is impossible to aim for the top in every pattern, you will eventually reach your limit.
In that sense, I think it is better to find strengths 'within yourself' rather than 'compared to others,' because you can gain energy with permanent sustainability and approach things in a way that is easy and not painful.
'Strengths' are hard to find
This 'strength within yourself.'
It is quite difficult to find.
This is because you are so good at it that you do it naturally.
For example, which hand do you usually use to hold your toothbrush?
Your pen?
Your kitchen knife?
You probably use your dominant hand, right?
I believe that 'strengths within yourself' are things you do unconsciously and naturally,
just like holding a tool with your dominant hand to perform a task.
Even without thinking about it,
You pick up your toothbrush with your dominant hand and brush your teeth
You pick up a pen with your dominant hand and write
You pick up a knife with your dominant hand and cut
You don't have to think, "I'll pick this up with my dominant hand today!"
Your hand reaches for it naturally, even while you're thinking about something else.
I believe your "inner strengths" are just like that—things you do so naturally
that you fall into those patterns without even thinking about them.
How can you discover your "strengths"?
So, how can you figure out what your inner strengths are?
How can you find them?
I have two recommended methods.
Method 1
The first is to ask others or pay attention to what people tell you.
As I wrote earlier, your inner strengths are patterns you are so good at that you perform them naturally without even being conscious of them.
Therefore, even if you think about it by yourself, it is often difficult to notice them because the actions are so second nature to you.
I, too, have had moments where I only realized something after someone told me,
Sakura-san,
your voice is so calming,
you are so gentle when you speak to children
and I thought, "Is that so!"
It is hard to see how the actions you take and the output you produce as a matter of course appear to others.
Sometimes you can only realize these things by asking others or hearing what they have to say.
When you want to find your strengths,
you might be tempted to sit alone with a notebook, but
please try looking for them in the words of others.
Method 2
The second method is to use diagnostic tools available in the world.
There are many diagnostic tools out there now.
StrengthsFinder, Enneagram, 16Personalities... Astrology and numerology can also be used as tools to know yourself.
By using these diagnostic tools as a starting point, you can learn your habits of action and thought, and by verifying the patterns of when things went well, you can discover your "strengths."
The "Brain Tendency Diagnosis (Ojuken Brain)" that I offer is one such "tool for knowing your strengths."
What makes the "Brain Tendency Diagnosis (Ojuken Brain)" different from other tools is that the results are provided in numbers.
"A △△ type that leans extremely towards the ◯◯ type"
"Your ◯◯ is strong, but you can also utilize your △△, so you can succeed by combining them"
You can make judgments with such gradations.
Rather than being told definitively, "You are a ◯◯ type!" in a uniform way, you can
see your behavioral and thinking tendencies more deeply.
Also, the "Brain Tendency Diagnosis (Ojuken Brain)" can be taken by children from the age of 10.
By knowing your child's "strengths",
behavioral patterns in groups such as school or extracurricular activities
suitable learning methods
stress levels
you can understand them and know how to provide effective encouragement and interaction.

"Strengths within yourself" are things you do as naturally as using your dominant hand.
If you try to cut vegetables or write with your non-dominant hand, it takes time, makes you tired, and drains your energy.
Trying to overcome things you are not good at takes that much energy.
If that's the case, I think it's better to use your dominant hand (your "strengths") to easily and stress-free
handle work, study, and relationships.
