A Goldfish's Feelings
Hi, I'm a goldfish.
I'm one of the six goldfish living in the house of someone named Yuni.
Everyone else has some red on their bodies, but I'm completely black.
Pretty cool, right?
Because my eyes pop out, I was called "Deme-chan" at first,
but after I showed them I could swim backward,
my nickname changed to Michael Jackson.
I don't know who Michael Jackson is, so I want them to call me by a cooler name.
Today is my seventh day since coming to this house.
Right now, I'm still swimming in a light saltwater solution in a tub.
I heard Dad say he's going to move us to a tank soon.
Dad cleans the tub we're in.
He moves us to a bucket before that, but he's a bit rough then, which is scary.
He tries to toss us into the bucket, and Yuni tells him, "Be gentle with them."
Well, he's not a bad guy.
The eldest son is laid-back.
He often comes to check on us, but he doesn't really do anything.
He doesn't dislike us, but he seems to be bad with living creatures.
Still, he always watches over us with a smile.
The second son. He's a show-off.
He once tried to scatter food like the old man who makes flowers bloom, and Yuni scolded him for it.
He has the desire to take care of us, but he seems a bit afraid of living things, so he watches from behind Dad or Yuni.
Yuni is the mom. She's always home.
Sometimes she buys coffee from a place called Starbucks and watches us while drinking it happily.
Also, she plays the piano or cleans while singing loudly; she's a lively person even when she's alone.
But she's the one who takes care of us the most.
Even when changing the water, she's gentler than Dad.
That's why I open and close my mouth to get her attention.
I came to a lively house, but everyone is very dedicated to us.
I look forward to being with you all from now on.
For you who read this far, I'll show you my backward swimming.
ちょ、バックなんかするから!

<Afterword>
Thank you for coming to read again today.
Taking care of goldfish is harder than I expected, but the more effort I put in, the cuter they become—this is Yuni.
Even when I'm out, I worry about how the goldfish are doing.
This time, I tried writing from the perspective of a goldfish.
I decided to try it on a whim, but it was quite difficult.
The goldfish are doing well today, too.
