[blog] 20. Being by your side
Good morning!
It's Yuyu♪
It's hot every day...
It really is summer~
Last week, in my private life,
I had several opportunities to listen to people venting.
Being by someone's side
is something to be grateful for on both sides, isn't it?✨
A colleague I was close with at my previous job
had something very shocking happen to her
and sent me a LINE message.
I sensed that this was serious,
so I told her I would fly over immediately
and asked if she wanted to go out for a drink.
Without feeling sorry or holding back,
she honestly and happily accepted my offer.
That kind of open-hearted personality
makes you feel good, too.
She was deeply hurt,
and even though she was on the verge of tears,
she still smiled, looked energetic,
was able to see things from a broader perspective, and was positive.
As expected! I felt she was tough.
Even so,
the fact that she was damaged remained unchanged,
so I rushed over,
and I was glad I could be there with her.
I went to karaoke with a mom friend as usual.
Starting from small talk about something annoying at work,
she began to talk about the things that had been bothering her daily.
We came to sing,
but the pent-up frustrations flowed out,
and I just listened to her talk.
After she talked for a while,
she said she felt refreshed after being heard,
and it seemed like a good way to blow off steam.
It seems she has been feeling stressed again lately,
so blowing off steam is important.
Singing songs is also the perfect way to relieve stress.
Making karaoke our club activity is how we make the most of it.
I suddenly received a LINE message from my second daughter asking, "Can you come over?"
I had just visited last weekend, so
I wondered what was wrong...?
I had heard through the grapevine that she seemed to be feeling down, but
the text in her message seemed a little relaxed and cheerful, so
I replied with just one word, "Sure," without asking anything.
Something must have happened.
She must want me to be by her side.
Not asking me to come back to my parents' home, but to come to her—
understanding the difference in that meaning,
I simply made time to be with her.
An hour and a half by car.
There is no particular errand.
She just wants me to be with her.
It might just be that,
but sometimes that "just that" is very important.
So, I rushed over.
My second daughter quietly munched on the McDonald's
double cheeseburger she had requested, and
slowly, little by little, she began to talk.
It was about a matter I had been consulted on several times before.
I listened to what sounded like a progress report.
My second daughter is also on the side of supporting others,
and since it is a rather heavy, difficult, and sensitive topic,
her own mental state was being affected as well,
setting boundaries and adjusting herself are still
difficult tasks for someone as young as her.
While being shaken and wandering,
being tossed about and going through experiences,
she is in the midst of learning something like a philosophy of life.
It seems that around my second daughter,
there are many people who support her.
She asked for help from others herself
and was able to rely on them properly.
She is growing up.
In the spring, she arranged for counseling
with the support of a professional agency for her own sake.
I realized that she is properly taking care of
protecting herself.
Although it is not something happening to my second daughter herself,
events that happen to those close and intimate to her
have a large impact,
so it would not be strange for her to be upset, but
I felt her growth in how she was able to organize her feelings and cope
with the help of others
until she could calm herself down.
Having been close to my second daughter's inner self through
middle school, high school, and university,
I am very happy about her mental growth.
Seeing her taste and savor sadness, anger, pain, and joy
is endearing, and
I felt deeply moved, thinking,
Ah, she is going through a very important growth right now.
And so, I just stayed by her side.
My second daughter told me that she had prepared herself for what happened,
she had come to terms with it and accepted it.
That is a good kind of strength.
It leads to being able to have composure and brightness.
Do you want to go sing?
I invited my second daughter, who is a vocalist.
I went with the friend who listened to my story,
even though I had just been crying my eyes out, haha.
But... maybe I'll go.
I'm going to go sing!
She said that any song would make her tear up,
she shed tears here and there,
she purely enjoyed singing,
and her ever-changing heart
felt like watching the process of becoming an adult.
Over these past few days, I felt a biorhythm
that made me wonder if it was a cycle of supporting others.
When something hurtful or sad happens,
being able to be by someone's side,
being able to be close to them,
I am grateful and happy for such a relationship.
Before someone carries it all alone,
being able to connect and talk
at a stage where I can be there for them and be relied upon
is very important,
and I am grateful to be allowed to be there.
And for myself as well,
I was able to feel a little bit of pride,
and that is how I spent that time.✨
