Love in the Midst of Helplessness

There are times when I feel

how helpless people are

For example

when you have done everything you can in a medical setting, but you can only watch without being able to do anything else

when you are faced with a life
and cannot do anything

when you cannot help
a child suffering from something

when you are working hard,
earnest,
and devoted

you feel that sense of helplessness

nurses are a good example of this

there are times when people feel helpless

when you are faced with something happening right in front of you

and you cannot do anything

but just watch

There are times like that

When I keep what I want to say to myself

And I feel frustrated

That I can do nothing

At the very least, I wish for your safety

And offer up a prayer

If we were friends, if we were family

I would put my feelings into words

When I suffer over things I cannot change

When my voice cannot reach you

When I cannot reach out my hand

When I cannot be of help to you

I feel my own helplessness

I cannot take your place...

What can be done at such times?

I can only watch over you

To only watch over someone who is struggling and suffering
is a task that requires so much patience

It is incredibly difficult to endure

Those fighting for their lives

or children going through adolescence

are similar to this

In every kind of situation

when one must face reality

the suffering of that person

becomes my own suffering

There are things that only the person themselves can do

No matter how much those around you want to help

there are things that the person themselves must find

Watching over someone

might feel like doing nothing at all

and it might feel like nothing is getting through

but that warm gaze

becomes an invisible, warm atmosphere

that spreads to those around

While being warmly protected

you are being supported

Even if you feel helpless

there are things you can do

That is what I believe

Even if the other person does not notice it

If the space is being created

It is not about rewards or results

Because I am sending my heart

For the sake of the other person

For my own sake

Within what has love

Love is watching over us
