My Realizations Regarding Receiving Visual and Auditory Information!
I was conducting a home visit for a student who is graduating this spring.
For four months, we had conversations once a week for about 30 minutes.
The student did not show their face. It was a conversation through voice only.
We talked about various things.
I imagine you might have concerns about the student's growth or my work, but
this time, it is not about those things...
I would like to talk about my own realizations.
An interaction through voice only.
The other person's figure is not visible.
The fact that there is no visual information.
I strain my ears.
I pay delicate attention to my ears,
in order to receive every single reaction,
in order to hear everything.
Simply focus on my own ears.
That is how I was using my ears.
On the other hand,
I keep my antenna tuned to the non-verbal information received through my ears.
The expression, quality, brightness, and tone of the voice, etc.,
The expression of the conversation, way of speaking, attitude while speaking, tone of voice, and pauses in speech, etc.,
The expression of the words, the words uttered, the number of words, and the choice of words, etc.,
It is as if,
it is a sensation where the face, expression, and attitude of the person I cannot see are drawn out so that I can see them.
However, that is nothing more than my own imagination.
Up to this point, this is the reception of the antenna that I use relatively often in daily life.
But,
The difference from daily life is how I direct my consciousness.
Directing my attention. Consciously!
It means becoming hyper-focused.
For me, receiving non-verbal information through my antenna is easy.
That is because it is my daily life,
and it is my natural, obvious, and normal state.
Up to this point, this has been about non-verbal information that I have directed my consciousness toward.
What I felt as a change within myself is,
that I was able to understand the words well!
What kind of things they are talking about,
what kind of things they are feeling,
how they are perceiving things,
what kind of state of mind they are in,
Relying only on what I hear with my ears,
what I feel comes in smoothly.
The way of perceiving it was conveyed simply.
So,
I didn't have to worry!
Yes...
There is no non-verbal information other than auditory information✨
I was able to think using only information from my ears!
For me, this was a major realization!
It was a surprise!
By blocking out one-way information, it was very easy to organize my thoughts.
I can think so clearly~
It feels like I've discovered something good for myself
My heart felt soft and relaxed
In reality, what the children are feeling,
what kind of expressions they have,
what they are feeling, and what they are thinking,
is something only they themselves can know
only they themselves can know
Even so, I will purely and simply
perceive what I feel, just as it is.
Why was I able to think so clearly?
It hit me...
It's visual!
Yes! I had felt that information entering through my vision sometimes causes confusion...
When there was a lot of auditory information—such as the voice I hear, the words, the content, and the expression in the voice—along with visual information—such as what I see, facial expressions, attitudes, and actions—
or when it was complex, or when my own emotions were involved,
there were times I couldn't process it all.
I feel that information entering through my eyes is particularly easy to get pulled into.
Things that enter my vision
are things I tend to assume are correct just because I see them...
What I see feels like it enters my body sensations, my skin, and my pores,
because that is how I feel I receive it.
The things that are visual information are:
Parts that haven't been put into words.
Parts that are merely me imagining what I saw and perceived.
While some things are easy to understand,
and some things are as clear as if I could hold them in my hands,
there are also times when it is difficult to perceive subtle nuances,
and sometimes it is complex because the person themselves is unconsciously acting differently.
For example, to think about communication that blocks out auditory input,
Should I think about conversations with foreigners when I can't speak English?
I cannot speak English.
Even so, I volunteer to be a host family!
How many times have I done this now?
The longest one was three months.
Even if I can't speak it, the conversation gets through.
I can catch information from the other person.
That's why it somehow gets through.
Watching me talk to foreigners, my friends ask,
"What were you talking about?"
"I don't know (lol)"
"What! You were talking so nicely, I thought you were saying something in English! (lol)"
It's like that.
My husband also asks me, why do you do it every time even though you can't speak it?
Or
how can you communicate when you can't speak,
from my husband's perspective, it seems very mysterious (lol)
(It's because you are very bad at understanding others! I smile bitterly in my heart)
Like with children, or in situations where words don't come out,
at times like that,
I perceive things only through visual information, but even that is often something I understand quite well.
Is it the same with animals?
In petting zoos, or just with dogs and cats,
"Why do animals only gather around Mom?"
"Mom, animals always come up to you, don't they? (lol)"
my children say to me.
Somehow,
I can see, and I can feel things that are invisible.
Visual and auditory,
When both are mixed together, when there is a lot of information, and also when there are many emotions
I become overwhelmed and crash from the flood of information
With the information coming in through my ears and the information coming in through my eyes
I am filled with discrepancies and discomfort, and I become unable to process it all
I realized that this was happening to me
And I felt myself becoming exhausted✨
By focusing only on my ears this time
When there is less information
I rely only on those limited things
That allows me to think simply
And also
Precisely because there is little information
The awareness that there are things I don't understand (that I cannot see)
Was activated
What I perceived
I was able to quickly understand that it was just what I had received
The realization within me
is easier to understand when information is blocked
That means
that there is a lot of information being received
Also,
visual information feels like it is being perceived through skin sensation
and it feels like it is etched into my body, making it easy to remain
Because it is easy to feel it realistically, it is hard to think of it as imagination
The stimulation of visual information is strong
It was as if it had been proven that this was clear
That was my own discovery!✨
I had felt that I was susceptible to receiving visual stimuli, but
Auditory senses and
visual senses
I was able to compare them and realize something.
Like this time,
I am actually turning my antenna on and off.
I also categorize my attention into stages: hyper-focus, super-focus, focus, and off.
Since it is tiring to keep my antenna sensitivity high,
I try to keep my daily life in 'off' mode as much as possible.
I have written about this in an article before, but
for a while now, noise-canceling earphones have been drowning out the noise,
and it feels so comfortable✨
I also carry sunglasses with me.
Ah, I feel comfortable when I block out information~✨
I must be receiving a lot of information.
That is why I have naturally been making various things smaller.
Ah, the feeling of being in a crowd, the chaotic noise of the bustling streets I felt when I was little,
and the feeling of feeling sick from the dirty air.
I feel like I understand why I find nature so pleasant.
For me, it was a very happy realization💕
