Things I Remembered While Talking About Art🎨
This is the first art project by Tomoshibi-san, whom I connected with on note a few days ago!🎨
【#TomoshibiArtWeek】
I love art, but to be honest, I'm not an expert.
I'm not exactly burning with intense passion for it either.
I felt like, who am I to talk about art...
That's why I've never written anything with art as the theme.
When I learned about Tomoshibi-san's project, I thought, 'Maybe this is a good chance to try writing about it!' and decided to participate.☺️
My encounter with art was through Maha Harada.
It started when I was a high school student and was shocked after reading Maha Harada's 'The Artist's Garden'.
(It seems Tomoshibi-san also likes Maha Harada, so I feel a sense of kinship!)
My vague image of Van Gogh as just some amazing painter suddenly transformed into a being that was impulsive! Passionate! And while eccentric, absolutely fascinating!
From there, I read several books, starting with 'Canvas of Paradise'.
'Romancier' is a book I reread many times when I need a boost.
When I read 'Tableau of Beautiful Fools', I headed to Ueno to enjoy the 'Matsukata Exhibition' held at the National Museum of Western Art.
I was nominated for the Naoki Prize, and I waited excitedly for the announcement of the winner along with other fans of Maha Harada-sensei.
After reading 'Reach-sensei', I started wanting to try pottery, and I made that happen after I became an adult!
Through Maha Harada's works, I came to love going to art museums.
The feeling of my heart becoming quiet is so comforting.🪽
Even before I knew of Maha Harada, I liked chorus, hula, and brass bands, so I had been exposed to art.
But it was definitely Maha Harada's influence that made me recognize 'art'.
I am grateful to the librarian who recommended Maha Harada to me back then.🙏🏻✨
Painting and Music
Painting has no rules and can be expressed freely.
Music is expressed within the bounds of discipline.
This is my image of painting and music.
I've done various things in music like chorus, hula, brass band, and electric guitar, but painting? Not at all!
I only went to a craft class in kindergarten and had the usual arts and crafts classes during my school days.
So, even though I have absolutely no knowledge, I have my own opinions.
When I was in elementary school, I was good at arts and crafts; if I drew a picture, it would definitely be awarded, and it was a model for everyone.
When I reached the upper grades of elementary school, I started worrying about various things, and suddenly, I stopped being praised.
By the time I became a junior high student, I didn't know what to draw, and I couldn't draw anything at all.
Writing this now, I remembered how much I envied friends who were good at art.
I suppose it's one of the regrets of my life.
I want to regain the fresh, unbound, and free sensibility I had when I was young.
I currently belong to a brass band and play an instrument called the oboe.
The oboe is like an instrument meant for playing solos.
When playing a solo, I used to face it with my reason, thinking things like 'What if I make a mistake?' or 'Can I get it right?'
But recently, I've realized a few things, and when I bring out my animal instincts to play a solo, it's actually fun.
I hope I can gradually reclaim the me from when I was young.♩️
I prefer being on the creative side, and I love art.
Art is incredibly broad and profound.
I want to try making movies, writing and publishing novels, and even doing stage direction.
I find historical buildings very charming, packed with romance and craftsmanship.
I don't mind dancing either. I want to keep playing in the brass band.
Who am I to talk about art?
I used to think that, but I can talk so much just about art.
I've started to think, maybe it's okay to just say I love it.
Come to think of it, I've given up on so many things I loved because of reasons like "there are people better than me," "there are people more knowledgeable than me," or "it's not realistic."
By writing about what I like this way, I've been able to affirm that "it's okay to like what you like!"🌱
If I have the chance, I want to make them happen🤩
It seems like I can satisfy my desire for movies enough by shooting vlogs.
Thank you, Tomoshibi-san, for giving me such a wonderful opportunity for realization☺️🫶🏻
