~"Do serious people lose out when studying?"~ [Taiga's absolute study methods to master]

I'm Taiga, and I have the entire Demon Slayer manga collection at home.

This time, I'd like to summarize the points I've felt while studying that don't seem very effective, or that I've actually felt were inefficient.

It ultimately depends on a person's personality and environment, but I hope this is at least a little helpful.

Study methods I felt were inefficient

・Using reference books at the start of studying
As I wrote in my previous article, reference books are written for people who already have knowledge, so I don't really recommend starting your studies with them.

・Trying to understand by reading the text from the beginning
I also wrote about this in the previous article, but the order of understanding for the reader and the author is different, so it's not guaranteed that you can understand in the same order. You should just skip around in an order that is easy for you to understand.

・Trying to summarize neatly in a notebook
This depends on the person, but I am super lazy, so just opening the notebook to summarize in it makes me hate it. In the first place, even if you summarize it neatly, it doesn't really stick in your memory that well.

・Thinking that if you just write it down, it will stick in your memory
I used to do this all the time too, but if you just keep writing without connecting the terms in your head, you'll forget them in two days.
You don't actually need to try to memorize things.
I'll mention this later, but there are things more important than memorizing.

・Trying to understand accurately and perfectly from the beginning
I don't think you need to. In the first place, there are things you can't understand until you've learned later topics, so understanding from the start is impossible.
It's important to just grasp the vibe and move on quickly.

Do serious people lose out when studying?

Looking at the inefficient study methods mentioned above,
it feels like serious people are the ones who fall into these traps.
Serious people try to understand accurately from the beginning and make desperate efforts to memorize everything. They work hard, but it's not effective. For some reason, that kid who is always playing gets better grades.

It's not that being serious is bad, but you could say that people who study in a simple-minded way have poor study efficiency.

So what is an efficient study method?

I think the following three points are important for studying efficiently.

・Grasp the whole picture and always have questions
You don't need to understand the details.
Just grasp the vague overall atmosphere for now
What is the point here, how is this knowledge used, why does it happen like this?
Always be conscious of asking "why, why?"
If you are conscious of "why, why?", you will see what the text is trying to convey. That leads to connecting the pieces of the puzzle.

・Recalling is more important than memorizing
This is quite important, andhumans solidify memories the moment they recall them. If you are interested, please search for the keyword "Active Recall". I associate and recall things from the keywords I've memorized. It's like a word association game.
Hard disk => Memory => Main memory => DRAM => Volatile => SSD => Auxiliary storage device
If there is a part where you get stuck while recalling,
try to recall it while groaning "hmm, hmm" 🙄. It's okay if you can't remember it. This process is what solidifies the memory. If you can't remember, check the text, etc. Think, "Ah, that's right," and then try to recall it again after a while. This repetition is very effective for memory retention.

・Don't study in a simple-minded way
I've written a lot about this above, but it's important to cheat and find ways to make studying easier. Working hard and steadily doesn't necessarily correlate with results. If you don't understand, just skip it. If it's a hassle, that study method doesn't suit you, so you don't have to do it.
