Thinking Habits of People Who Cannot Change
Why do people quit halfway through?
In fact, the cause is
neither talent nor environment.
It is simply whether or not you possess a certain mindset.
A 'growth mindset'
I believe this is an essential foundation for changing your life.
A person's abilities can be developed through effort and training.
Believing this is a 'growth mindset'.
On the other hand,
'Abilities are determined at birth'
Thinking this way is a 'fixed mindset'.
So, why is a growth mindset important?
The reason is simple:
without this mindset, people cannot keep going.
I want you to imagine for a moment.
When you challenge yourself with something and it doesn't go well,
don't you hear a voice in your head like this?
'I guess I really don't have the talent for this.'
'Maybe I should do something else.'
'I feel like I'm better suited for this other thing.'
In this way,
reasons to justify your inability come to mind one after another, and you naturally quit.
This is not a story about special people.
I think it is something many people do unconsciously.
Of course, there are things people are suited for and things they are not.
I do not deny that.
However, before that,
I think giving up is a little too early.
If you quit before seeing results,
no matter what you do, it will be a repetition of the same thing.
On the other hand, people with a growth mindset are different.
They think about their inability like this:
'I just can't do it yet.'
'If I keep going, I will definitely be able to do it.'
A state of inability is just a passing point.
Therefore, they do not quit.
They keep trying while changing their methods.
While repeating trial and error,
they move forward little by little.
This difference
results in a huge gap.
However, there is one thing I don't want you to misunderstand.
People do not
possess only one of these mindsets.
Many people have both.
In fact, I am the same.
I believe that athletic ability and thinking skills can be improved through effort.
But when it comes to singing, there is a part of me that thinks, 'This is probably impossible.'
Also, a fixed mindset exists even within athletic ability.
That is regarding running.
For example, in a 100m dash,
I had decided somewhere along the line that 'I am the type whose speed doesn't increase in the second half.'
So, although I have explosive power, I didn't try to improve beyond that.
In other words,
a growth mindset and a fixed mindset coexist.
This is not a bad thing.
Rather, I think that is fine.
Because there is a 'time limit' in life.
You cannot master everything.
That is precisely why
you need to focus on your strengths.
In any field, if you put in the effort, you will improve to some extent.
While holding that premise,
'I will do this part myself'
'I will leave this part to others'
You make choices like that.
While thinking about such things,
I suddenly remembered these words:
'People can do anything.
But they cannot do everything.'
I truly think that is correct.
That is why what is important is
'selection and concentration'.
What do you choose, and what do you use your life for?
What becomes necessary at that time is
a growth mindset.
For example,
'I am introverted, so I am bad at speaking in front of people.'
Thinking that way is close to a fixed mindset.
But if you change your perspective,
precisely because you are introverted,
you can think deeply about words.
You can empathize with people's emotions.
You can also interpret it that way.
Characteristics are not weaknesses,
they can become weapons depending on how you use them.
This is the essence of a growth mindset.
Not changing yourself,
but utilizing yourself.
Knowing your own characteristics,
and focusing on developing them.
By doing that,
you create a 'form unique to yourself' that no one else has.
There is no need to compare yourself to others.
What is important is
how you want to be.
When you have a growth mindset,
things you previously thought were boring begin to have meaning little by little.
Life is a series of trial and error.
That is precisely why it is interesting.
To move your life forward with your own hands,
today again,
I want to build up my day with a growth mindset.
