Traveler's Notebook Card Size | First Care and Customization

I was lucky enough to get my hands on the "Traveler's Notebook 20th Anniversary Card Size."

When I actually held it in my hands, the size was extremely compact, but I felt a functional beauty that goes beyond just a miniature. The volume, which fits in the palm of my hand, is easier to handle than I expected, and it is finished in a way that naturally makes me imagine taking it out daily. Before I start using it in earnest, I decided to first condition the leather and set it up to my own specifications.

First Care

The black leather that just arrived is still dry on the surface, and the texture is quite firm.

I considered using either Collonil or Renapur, but this time, considering the balance between protection and shine, I chose Renapur for now.

I took a small amount on a sponge and spread it thinly in a circular motion. As the oil penetrated, a calm luster returned to the matte surface, and it changed to a texture that clings moistly to my fingertips.

Through this care, I feel that the leather as a product is changing into a "tool" that fits into my life.

Ballpoint pen for notebooks

I will set the ballpoint pen in the cotton zipper case. This time, I wanted something that I could carry with the notebook without it being bulky, so I purchased an OHTO ballpoint pen for notebooks at Traveler's Factory at the same time.

Charm

As a finishing touch after maintenance, I attached a charm to the center rubber band. For the regular size brown one I have been using for a while, I attached an antique metal button from Burberrys that I inherited from an old piece of clothing. For this card size, I matched it with a button engraved with the same "Knight's Crest."

Actually, these buttons were taken from different parts of the same garment. I used the large button that serves as the main feature for the regular size, and the smaller button that was used on the cuffs for the card size.

Although they are two books of different sizes and colors, by having them wear the crest with the same roots, a strong consistency as tools was born.

The smallest Traveler's Notebook and records to come

The card size notebook, now cared for and set up in my own way.
It is still scratch-free for now, but as I take it out more often, it should develop a deep character just like my regular size one.

I am considering how to use it, thinking about what kind of records I will accumulate by taking advantage of the mobility unique to this size, all while looking at the notebook that still has a faint scent of Renapur.

For leather maintenance, I use Collonil 1909 Leather Cream for both the regular and passport sizes. I like it because it produces a clean, deep luster. I have a feeling I will end up using it for the card size as well.
