Anthropic Scales Up Enterprise Strategy: Department-Specific AI Agents and Private Marketplaces
"2025 was supposed to be the year agents transformed the enterprise. But much of the hype ended prematurely. The problem wasn't a lack of effort, but the wrong approach," says Kate Jensen, Head of Americas at Anthropic. Building on this reflection, the company announced a comprehensive update on February 24, 2026, to facilitate the full-scale deployment of enterprise AI agents. This includes significantly strengthening the Claude Cowork plugin architecture, providing dedicated agents for key departments such as Finance, Legal, HR, and Engineering, and introducing a private marketplace mechanism contained within the enterprise.
1. A Shift in Approach: From "Deploying General AI" to "Deploying Department-Specific Agents"
1-1. Lessons from 2025
Matt Piccolella, Product Officer at Anthropic, states, "The future of work is everyone having their own custom agent." However, in the reality of enterprises actually integrating AI agents into their operations, simply deploying a general-purpose chat interface did not work.
Many of the failures in traditional AI agent adoption were due to the deployment mechanism rather than technical limitations. Every department has different workflows, terminology, data sources, and approval processes. The output required and the tools used by an engineering team are fundamentally different from those of an HR department. This announcement is a direct answer to this problem.
1-2. Centralized Management via "Customize"
A new integrated menu called "Customize" has been created for administrators. Plugins, skills, and connectors (integrations with external tools) can be managed centrally here. You can choose to create plugins starting from starter templates or build them from scratch. In either case, Claude helps set up skills, commands, and connectors tailored to the company's specific requirements by asking questions in a conversational format.
The consolidation from traditional multi-screen settings into a single management console reflects a design philosophy that aims to achieve the same level of control for AI agents that IT departments naturally expect when deploying enterprise software.
2. Private Marketplace: A New Unit for Enterprise Deployment
2-1. Plugin "Portability"
One of the core aspects of this announcement is the private marketplace mechanism. Companies can build their own dedicated plugin catalogs and control which plugins are accessible at the department, team, and individual levels. Plugins are designed as simple, portable file systems, owned and managed by the company.
Looking at the details of the management features, they include a private beta feature that allows the use of private GitHub repositories as plugin sources, per-user provisioning, and automatic installation settings. OpenTelemetry support has also been added, allowing administrators to track usage, costs, and tool activity history across teams.
2-2. Improving User Experience
For end-users, slash commands now launch structured forms. Executing workflows such as "generate a report" or "display a dashboard" can now be done with the same feeling as filling out a brief. Additionally, corporate branding is now applied across the entire Cowork interface, and the home screen has been redesigned to be customized for each company.
3. Department-Specific Plugin Content: Designed According to Practical Workflows for Each Role
The department-specific plugins added this time were reportedly co-designed with experts well-versed in the practical work of each profession. Here is a look at the main ones.
For Finance, five types of plugins are available: Financial Analysis (basic tasks for financial analysts such as market/competitor research, financial modeling, and creating/quality-checking PowerPoint templates), Investment Banking (reviewing transaction documents, building comparable company analysis, and creating pitch materials), Equity Research (analyzing earnings transcripts, updating financial models with new guidance, and drafting research notes), Private Equity (reviewing large document sets, extracting standardized financial data, scenario modeling, and scoring deals based on investment criteria), and Wealth Management (portfolio analysis, identifying discrepancies and tax burdens, and large-scale generation of rebalancing recommendations).
For HR and Operations, the HR plugin covers tasks such as offer letters, onboarding plans, performance reviews, and compensation analysis. The Operations plugin handles process documentation, vendor evaluation, change management tracking, and runbook creation.
For Technical and Creative, the Engineering plugin assists with creating stand-up summaries, coordinating incident responses, building deployment checklists, and drafting post-mortems. The Design plugin generates critique frameworks, drafts UX copy, performs accessibility audits, and structures user research plans. Additionally, the Brand Voice plugin, built by Tribe AI, analyzes existing documents and marketing materials to extract brand voice guidelines.
4. New Connectors and Excel/PowerPoint Integration
4-1. Integration with Major Enterprise Tools
The newly added connectors include Google Workspace (Calendar, Drive, Gmail), DocuSign, Apollo, Clay, Outreach, Similarweb, MSCI, LegalZoom, FactSet, WordPress, and Harvey.Agents can now retrieve data and context directly from these systems.
Without connectors, agents are trapped in information silos. Only by connecting to internal CRM data, contract management systems, and financial data providers can financial and legal plugins become practical business support tools. In this sense, the expansion of these connectors is a foundational move to enhance the effectiveness of plugin functionality.
Slack by Salesforce, LSEG, S&P Global, Common Room, and Tribe AI have already built plugins for joint customers, and the expansion of the ecosystem is progressing.
4-2. Cross-Task Processing Between Excel and PowerPoint
Another notable feature is the integration between Excel and PowerPoint.Currently in research preview, Claude can now carry context from one add-in to the other, enabling end-to-end processing of cross-application tasks such as 'running an analysis in Excel and converting it into a presentation in PowerPoint.' This feature is available for Mac and Windows users on paid plans.
This announcement clearly indicates that Anthropic is moving beyond its position as a model provider and aiming to become a platform deeply embedded in corporate IT environments. The standardization of plugins, the private marketplace mechanism, and the expansion of connectors are attempts to bring the governance and security requirements that corporate IT departments naturally demand for existing software deployments to AI agents. As Sanjay Subramanian of PwC stated, 'bringing enterprise-grade agents to the CFO's organization,' collaboration with existing business consulting and system integration firms is also a key element of this announcement.
