SONGS (Tanka Edition) ❅ Autumn '23 – Early Summer '24
Over the past six months or so, I have composed about 150 thirty-one-syllable poems. (That is by no means a large number for a Tanka lover.)
From those, here are 20 self-selected pieces.
Some have already appeared on note, some were posted including Cresson, and a few are being revealed for the very first time.
I have also remade some works from long ago and mixed them in.
This is the BGM for this time. I recommend listening with the volume turned down a little.
Due to various circumstances, I have expressed them in two lines.
Well then,
With the innocence of sunset particles,
may I kidnap you, 'Autumn'?
Pretending I forgot to return this book,
I make it a reason to meet you again.
On a day of four at-bats, no hits, and one error,
let's buy flowers and cake on the way home.
We are at just the right distance, aren't we?
Farther than neighbors, closer than the moon.
I leave the hospital room window open just a crack,
wanting to breathe in the season outside.
Sometimes your Osaka dialect slips out,
and I find the real you.
Suddenly dropped: 'I want to be born a man next time,'
I am bewildered by that murmur.
Slipping past, slipping past, our wavelengths synchronize,
a miracle occurring at gigabit speed.
Watching a single snowflake drift down,
with you there drinking hot milk.
Wearing layers of colors, the twilight
becomes a deep blue of memories.
Having finished deleting every email from my ex,
my smartphone feels a little lighter.
There is one thing in this world that is universally healthy,
and that is time.
The station piano, played only as a prank,
the feast on the eve before it is carried away.
I won't move, I don't want to move, I can't move,
a spell has been cast on the kotatsu.
Another page added, named disaster,
what it means to live, what it means to age.
The person I should be sending encouragement to is asleep,
the flickering of life in the ICU.
The season that comes nurturing various lives
The sky also seems as if it were just born
A plump prologue of pink wind
The Kawazu cherry blossoms open up the spring
Having to release them due to moving house
The spring stream is vast for the medaka
It was a spring where my heart ached until just a moment agoNow it is summer, looking up at the early summer sky
I finished it off with a pun, just like Sen-sing.
Well, that's fine.
***** ******
While I was compiling the article, I learned about Ohayone-san's
news.
If you would like, I would be happy if you could use my last humble poem (It was a spring...) for the Tanka section.
Well then everyone, please have a wonderful summer.
