The shop had several pieces of fabric with somewhat unusual patterns on display.
Some of them featured a lineup of Osechi dishes.

A clerk approached and said,
"These are each one-of-a-kind items.
They are a bit pricey, but they are worth it."

They were just pieces of cloth that didn't look like much.
As if reading my mind,
the clerk whispered,
"This is an Osechi Furoshiki wrapping cloth."

The clerk explained.
Please wrap an empty tiered food box with this.
One, two, three.
If you untie the wrapping cloth and open the lid of the box,
a beautifully and neatly packed Osechi will appear.
Every New Year, with just this one wrapping cloth,
you will never have to worry about preparing Osechi again.

I couldn't help but want to try it.
Unable to resist my curiosity, I bought it.
One, two, three.
With a pounding heart, I opened the lid.
Osechi really did appear.

However,
it was a very plain Osechi.
There were no shrimp, abalone, or herring roe.
I checked the wrapping cloth.
The expensive ingredients were not depicted on it.

I should have gone with the other, more expensive one.
