Social Misfit
I don't want to worry about what to eat.
And I don't want to stand in line for something as trivial as a meal.
That's why I don't go to restaurants that have lines, and even if I do go into a restaurant, I only order the standard items. No wonder my palate is unrefined.
I'm the type of person who is fine with eating the same thing every day (provided it's something I like, of course). That's why I buy and eat the same thing from a convenience store for lunch every weekday.
When I'm on a long-term business trip for a month or two to launch a new project, there have been times when I've eaten beef bowls or curry every single day. Even then, I don't want to worry about 'food'.
Come to think of it, 'clothing' is the same.
Of course, it changes depending on the season, but I wear pretty much the same thing every day.
I own about 10 AIRism T-shirts, so I rotate through those. Whether at the office or at home (since the air conditioning is on), it's pretty much like that all year round. I've settled on a standard G-SHOCK for my watch, and I rotate through three pairs of my favorite sneakers.
Is 'housing' the same too...
My room is a six-tatami mat Western-style room, which serves as both my workspace and bedroom.
Roughly one-third is my bed and one-third is a bookshelf plus a garment rack, so my workspace is only about two tatami mats in size. Back when remote work was encouraged, I spent almost 24 hours a day in that space.
Oh, isn't that just being a 'shut-in'?
I sometimes think that if I had taken a wrong turn somewhere in my life, I might have ended up as a NEET...
I consider myself a bit of a social misfit. That was evident from a young age, and it hasn't improved just because I've gotten older. If anything, it's only getting worse.
But people I trust invite me out, so I go out for drinks. If it weren't for that, I probably wouldn't even eat out. I commute because my company tells me to come to the office and gives me reasonably rewarding work, but if my boss were a jerk, I might not be going to the office at all.
In that way, I feel like I'm managing to create time to interact with the outside world.
I'm grateful for that...
