Qualities Required of a Team Leader

The players in an orchestra communicate with one another without exchanging words, let alone relying on data or graphs, to deliver the best music to their audience.

This is because each member knows they are part of the orchestra (mission), understands what piece they are about to play (vision), and is an expert on their instrument (value).

The conductor is not leading the team.
They are simply using their body to express adjustments while monitoring the overall balance. This relationship works because they understand that everyone is an expert in their part and they know they can trust one another.

Because of the title "team leader," leaders try to lead the team. However, what a leader must do is not something as abstract as "leading."

First, a leader must clarify the mission. Otherwise, they cannot attract members who possess high value.

Next, a leader must share the vision. Without a shared vision, members will not know what piece they are about to play. A leader who thinks, "You should know without me saying it," is the worst. An excellent leader distributes the setlist (including encore pieces) to the members in advance.

Finally, a leader is required to possess the "discernment" to gauge the high value of each individual member. This must be backed by the leader's own sincere learning and rich experience. Otherwise, that discernment will instantly become shallow.
As the number of members increases, it becomes necessary to set a hierarchy within each section and assign sheet music accordingly. This should be decided by identifying the characteristics and skill levels of each member through daily practice. This part is what should be called "communication," and sharing the vision is not what communication is.

Now, if you have accomplished this much, there is almost nothing left for the leader to do.

You simply receive the applause from the customers yourself.
