Chapter 1: "The Controller of Destiny"
A year ago, Shota, a college student, was desperate to get his hands on the latest game console, the "PlayStation 5 (PS5)." However, due to the persistent shortages since its release, he failed every lottery sale he entered. Then one day, he heard that Saori, a fellow gamer, had managed to get a PS5.
Shota and Saori were high school classmates, but they weren't particularly close. However, with the PS5 as a common topic, he decided to reach out to her for the first time in a while.
He took a leap of faith and sent Saori a message asking, "Could I try playing on your PS5?" To his surprise, she replied easily, "Sure, want to play together?"
Invited into Saori's room, Shota couldn't hide his excitement as he laid eyes on the brand-new PS5 and DualSense controller.
"It's amazing. The vibration, the weight of the triggers—it's like I've stepped into the game world," Saori said with a happy smile.
"Wow..." he said, moved, and the two decided to start a co-op game.
Chapter 2: "A Distance Without Lag"
As they played, the distance between Shota and Saori began to shrink without them even realizing it. Although they hadn't talked much in the past, they were perfectly in sync within the game, acting like a long-time duo.
"Shota, I'll hold off the enemies on that side!"
"Roger! I'll make my move while you do!"
Not just on the screen, but in reality, their teamwork was getting better and better.
"By the way, isn't the load time super short?"
As Shota said this in surprise, Saori nodded proudly.
"Right! Since the PS5 uses an SSD, game startup is seamless. We don't have to wait on loading screens like before anymore."
"Seriously... and the graphics are amazing, too. The shadows and light reflections are so detailed, they're almost too realistic."
"That's thanks to a technology called ray tracing. Especially with night views and water effects, you really can't tell them apart from reality, right?"
"You're right... and the game audio has such an immersive feel to it, too."
"It uses a technology called 3D audio, so you can even tell the direction of the sounds. If you play a horror game, it's so scary it's insane!"
Shota stared at the screen in admiration, his longing for a PS5 growing stronger.
"I mean, having a PS5 would make every day fun, wouldn't it?"
"Yeah! You can relieve stress from work and school, watch movies and anime in beautiful quality, and there are so many ways to enjoy it beyond just games."
"Plus, you can play with friends online, and it increases the time we spend together like this, too."
"...I suppose so." Saori smiled, looking a little embarrassed.
Shota suddenly found himself staring at Saori's happy expression. He had started to feel that her smile was more dazzling than the light of the PS5's LED.
Chapter 3: "The Save Point is Next to You"
After that, Shota visited Saori's room several times. One day, in between games, Saori suddenly murmured.
"If you get a PS5, Shota, we can play together online, too."
However, Shota thought for a moment before replying.
"No... if possible, I'd rather play together in person like this."
Saori looked at Shota in surprise, but immediately smiled.
"In that case, will you come to my place again?"
Shota laughed and nodded. In that moment, he was certain that a new "save data" for the two of them was beginning.
Epilogue: "Time I Want to Replay"
A few months later, Shota finally got his hands on a PS5. Even so, he continued to visit Saori's house just as before.
Even if you can save game data, precious time never returns.
And together with the PS5, the two of them started a "New Game" of a new story.
