My Family Conversation Series: The Habit of Snacking
One day.
On the dining table,
the fried chicken for dinner had been set out.
It was a perfect golden brown.
It looked delicious just to look at.
I quietly checked my surroundings.
My mother was busy doing something else.
Alright.
I can do it now.
Thinking that,
I reached out toward the fried chicken, and just then.
My mother said.
You're trying to sneak a snack, aren't you?
I jumped.
I hadn't even
touched the fried chicken yet.
How did she know?
Having been seen through so perfectly,
I couldn't help but ask.
How did you know?
Then my mother,
with a look as if it were obvious, said.
You just chuckled, didn't you?
...Chuckled?
My mother continued.
"You know, you've always
laughed before you pull a prank."
That's ridiculous.
Was I really such an easy person to read?
If anything, I
thought I had a poker face.
I thought I was
completely maintaining my composure.
Apparently, before I commit a misdeed,
I unconsciously give a warning.
Heh heh.
