Swallow Love❤️

The eaves of Rakan, an old folk house cafe salon, seem to be a super popular property for swallows every year, and they build many nests there.

It's normal to have two or three swallow nests at the entrance every year.
In fact, there are even swallows that fly right inside the house.
This May, I heard very lively chatter from the swallows near the branches of the pine tree at the entrance.
A nest had already been built...
(They are tough ones, building a nest right on top of the toy snake I put up to scare them away so they wouldn't build one.)

"Pichi-pichi, churu-churu..." (lol)
Ah, it sounds like a big group is having a meeting.
"Should we build another nest here?"
I wonder if they were talking about things like that.
Thinking that,
I suddenly decided to talk to them.

"Excuse me, swallows, sorry to interrupt your conversation.
Look, I will protect the nest you've already built, so could you please build any others somewhere else?
Since I run a cafe, having a lot of droppings at the entrance interferes with business, so I would appreciate your cooperation."
I said that.
I spoke to them seriously, just as I would to a human.

Then,
the swallows, who had been talking so lively,
stopped talking instantly, as if they had really listened to me.
After that, they gave up on building any more nests.
Now there is only one nest, and they are living in it very neatly and seem to be raising their chicks.

And today, when my husband was staring intently at the swallow's nest, the parent bird perched on the edge of the nest as if to protect the chicks, appearing wary of my husband's presence, so
I spoke to them again.

"Swallows,
we have no intention of doing anything to the chicks.
Please rest assured."
The moment I said that, I made eye contact with the parent swallow.
And then, it gave a little nod
and went back into the nest.

What? ...I was surprised.
It felt like they understood me perfectly! 🩷
I might have even built a relationship of trust with the swallows!

I felt so happy,
my heart felt all warm and fuzzy.
And I've come to find the swallows very endearing.
Until last year,
I was annoyed, thinking, 'Oh no, droppings again 💩,' but...

Maybe it's because I've been watching the swallow series of 'Jupit Anime' while laughing my head off that I've developed a sense of closeness to them (lol).

I think I'll try talking to various other birds from now on.
