A Report on Accompanying the Next-Generation Craftsman College: The Atmosphere of the Site as a 'Place of Learning'
Edo Yashiki Next-Generation Craftsman College (Session 1 - Day 2)
I recently accompanied the second day of the 'Edo Yashiki Next-Generation Craftsman College' as a member of the photography staff.
Being present at the site that day, there was something I felt that was 'unique to this place.'
The tension of a 'place of learning' among professionals
I have seen workshops where carpenters teach the general public or students several times before, but this time the atmosphere was different.
Since the participants are also professionals who work on-site every day, the language flying back and forth was very technical.
Sharp questions were raised one after another in response to the instructor's explanations, and as the name 'College' suggests, the atmosphere of people seriously trying to acquire skills was impressive.

'Professional behavior' that drives the site
During the program, I frequently saw scenes where participants would clear the space needed next in advance or organize tools to make it easier for those around them to work.
The sight of the space being organized one after another without anyone needing to give instructions made me feel the high quality unique to this college.
The fact that the cleanup and withdrawal after work proceeded so smoothly was a great learning experience, as it showed me that when people who drive sites on a daily basis gather, time can be used this efficiently.

The consideration and background of the craftsmen
It left an impression on me that the instructor craftsmen spoke in detail not only about technical matters but also about consideration for the users and those around them, such as 'why this order is used' and 'how to make the next task easier.'
Even regarding the use of a single tool, there were many moments where knowing the reason behind it led to a deeper understanding.

During the final reflection time, participants also commented that it was a 'fulfilling time,' and I felt once again the density of these two days.
It was a very meaningful time for me as I watched from the sidelines, and I am very much looking forward to the energy of the site, which will likely increase with each session.
