The Convergence of the Universe #ShortShort
"When do you think the universe will end?"
My junior colleague, Manabe, said while drinking coffee in the lab.
"Heat death. Big Crunch. Vacuum decay. Well, there are various theories."
"That's not it. It's a more 'mathematical' way for it to end."
Manabe began writing equations on the whiteboard.
At first, it was standard cosmology.
Expansion rate, dark energy, spacetime curvature.
But halfway through, the equations started taking on a strange form.
It was as if he were treating the universe itself as a single sequence.
He wrote this at the end.

"…A limit?"
"Yes. The universe converges to 'somewhere'."
I laughed.
"The universe is like a sequence?"
"The opposite. Sequences are like the universe."
Manabe quietly turned the monitor around.
On it, all-sky observation data was displayed.
Galaxy distribution. Background radiation. Gravitational waves.
All of them were approaching a certain 'shape'.
Little by little.
While reducing the margin of error.
As if it were an iterative calculation.
"This universe has been searching for a solution from the very beginning."
"A solution to what?"
Manabe was silent for a moment before speaking.
"The point of convergence."
At that moment, the lights in the laboratory all went out at once.
I thought it was a power outage.
But when I looked out the window, the city lights and the stars were gone too.
A pitch-black universe.
No, it had become "uniform."
There were no boundaries, no sense of distance. Everything was approaching the same value.
Only the computer screen glowed white.
On it, a new equation was being displayed automatically.
