Short-Short Story "Tsukimi Barber" - Weekly Short-Short Note 9/6 Prompt
Clang, clang.
"Oh, is it that season already?"
The owner of Tsukimi Barber muttered as he saw the customer arrive.
"Yes, the usual, please."
A beautiful woman.
Lustrous long black hair, skin that reminded one of porcelain.
Slender eyes with long lashes that seemed not of this world, captivating all who looked upon them.
The owner guided the woman to the only chair in the shop and began to trim her hair with practiced scissor work.
"How many years has it been?"
The furry owner asked, using his short legs to work in the treatment.
"A thousand, perhaps. It's pathetic, isn't it?"
The owner did not answer, but let his mouth soften into a gentle expression.
"All done. A beautiful woman has become even more beautiful."
"Thank you."
Looking into the mirror, the woman checked the details with satisfaction.
The woman stood up and headed toward the entrance.
She stopped in front of the transparent door, and through it, she turned her moist eyes toward the blue star floating in the darkness.
The owner did not call out to her, but opened his newspaper.
Clang, clang.
The woman left along with the sound of the doorbell.
"What kind of handsome man could he be, to keep such a wonderful woman waiting?"
The owner muttered, twitching his long ears, and turned the page of the newspaper.
"Space rocket completed on Earth. Lunar war imminent?"
The owner's eyes lingered on that headline.
The owner narrowed his eyes and let out a deep sigh.
