Poem: 'The Electric Blanket Died'
'The Electric Blanket Died'
The electric blanket died
It was sudden
I tossed it aside while cleaning
And pulled it after I was done
It got caught on something
The power cord was snagged
Yet I pulled it roughly anyway...
The electric blanket died
It was silent
It won't light up even when I turn it on
I wait, wondering if it's just my imagination
It remains cold, just as I thought
The corpse lay curled up sadly
The day the 1,980 yen blanket I bought 10 years ago died
The electric blanket died
And it became a funeral
I had already bought a replacement
A fluffy flannel type
And yet, this winter
It was so hot that the lowest setting felt good
Even though it's dead, I loved this one
The electric blanket died
I think I killed it
I repent for treating it so poorly
I'm crying, wishing I hadn't pulled it
I keep staring at the corpse
I find myself dreaming that it might come back to life
I'll probably keep it for a while without throwing it away
The electric blanket died
And now I'll replace it
No matter how warm the new electric blanket is
It won't comfort my sorrow
Is that what life is?
Is it for the sake of the world that we grow old and die?
I suddenly laughed at a YouTube video, and it scared me
Five days later.
The electric blanket died
It's not even a ripple in the world, but...
I'm starting to want to lean on you
Losing anything, at any time, is scary
I don't want to have any regrets about love, at least
I will never treat you roughly or carelessly
Please, don't you ever suddenly disappear
