The courage to be a beginner brought a new world. --In your 60s, starting something new is harder than being able to do it.--
A weekend afternoon.
I brew coffee and open my computer as usual.
What shall I create today?
Should I write a note article?
Or should I try composing a new song?
Thinking about the continuation of my novel is also nice.
Such time has completely become a part of my daily life recently.
Until just a few months ago, I never imagined myself like this.
Writing text while consulting with AI.
Creating images.
Composing music.
Writing novels.
Publishing songs on YouTube.
I thought all of these were worlds that had nothing to do with me.
What changed was not my ability.
It was my way of thinking.
Before, I used to think before starting something new.
Will I be able to do it?
But there is no answer to that question.
Because no one knows the answer before they start.
So, I decided to change my way of thinking a little.
Instead of asking, "Can I do this?"
I decided, "Let's try being a beginner."
That is what I decided.
Then, something strange happened.
The number of things I didn't know increased.
The number of failures increased, too.
But, even more than that,
a world I couldn't see until yesterday began to appear little by little.
AI was one of those things.
At first, I thought it was a magic tool that would answer anything.
However, as I continued to use it, I realized that wasn't the case.
AI provides many answers.
But, from among them,
"This isn't right."
"I want to do it a little differently."
"This is what I really want to convey."
I am the only one who can make those choices.
Relying on AI is not a bad thing.
In fact, I think it is better to use it actively in the coming era.
However, if you rely on it completely, you stop using your own head.
Precisely because it is a convenient tool,
I think for the very last step, you should think for yourself.
I believe that is the most important thing.
The older you get,
the fewer opportunities you have to be a beginner.
At work, you are an experienced professional.
At home, you have your accustomed roles.
"Please teach me."
The number of times you say those words decreases.
That is why it takes a little courage to start something new.
But that courage,
brings not only new hobbies,
but also new scenery and new encounters.
Recently, I have started to think about things like that.
In the second half of life,
perhaps it is more valuable,
to be able to become a beginner over and over again than to master something.
Without being ashamed of what you don't know,
enjoying what you don't understand,
While getting help from convenient AI,
in the end, I think with my own head.
If I maintain that attitude,
life will continue to be interesting.
At least, that is what I believe.
That is why today, too, I brew coffee and open my computer.
"What kind of new world will I encounter today?"
With that expectation in my heart, I think I will try being a beginner once more.
