Vol. 4 [Quick Drink] Enjoy a Luxurious 'Senbero' at an Amalfi Cafe at Twilight
It's Hanapiki!
This time, for the first time in my solo dining series, I'm doing a 'quick drink' edition that includes alcohol 🌟
I don't really associate Minato Mirai with drinking spots (I have an image of it being a healthy place for families to visit, or if you're going to drink, it's at a fancy hotel restaurant with a night view), so I always thought if I were going out for a drink, I'd head to the Sakuragicho area or near Yokohama Station.
Because of that, I rarely drink in Minato Mirai, but I recently went for a quick solo drink after work, so I'd like to introduce it to you!
The place I visited, AMALFI CAFFE, is a new concept Italian cafe produced by the Shonan Kamakura Italian restaurant 'Amalfi.' It's a shop with three faces—lunch, cafe time, and dinner—and its terrace seating is a major draw.
The reason I went was that I happened to see a 'Quick Drink Set' while passing by.
I had been curious about what a 'senbero' (a cheap, casual drinking experience) in Minato Mirai would be like 👌

The Yokohama Museum of Art and Grand Mall Park spread out in front of the shop, and since there are no roads or power lines, you can enjoy your meal on the terrace, which is a signature feature of this shop, feeling as if you were in Europe!

Since it's September and there are more days where you can feel the coolness in the morning and evening, I thought it was the season to enjoy the terrace, so I requested a terrace seat. (Though, perhaps it's still hot for everyone else, as there was no one else out on the terrace... lol)
I arrived around 5:00 PM, and the shop was about half full, but the terrace was empty.
I ordered the 'Quick Drink Set,' and this is what came out!

For alcohol, you can choose from draft beer, sparkling wine, wine (red/white), or sangria (red/white). Prosciutto, nuts, and cheese were served as snacks. The bitterness of the beer and the salty snacks go very well together.
Regarding the combination of beer and salt, I found an interesting article while doing some research for this post, so I'll share it!
It seems that both historically and scientifically, adding salt makes beer taste better.
Adding salt to beer can balance the sweetness, suppress bitterness, and improve the mouthfeel, significantly enhancing the flavor of the beer. Its historical origins lie in ancient civilizations and traditional German brewing, and many craft breweries today continue to explore and innovate with salted beer, especially in styles like Gose and sour ales. Furthermore, major beer companies have acknowledged that adding salt brings unique benefits to the beer-drinking experience and have begun experimenting with salt in their own flavored and limited-edition beers.
I believe that if you eat while fiddling with your smartphone, the taste changes (= you can't feel the true deliciousness of the meal), so I keep the smartphone use to a minimum... and enjoy the twilight. I felt happy with the pleasant evening breeze and the buzz of the alcohol, so I think it's great value for money (to be able to feel this giddy for 1,000 yen)! lol
As I took my time enjoying my drink, the staff began turning on the lights for the terrace seating just before 6:00 PM.

As usual, no one came outside until the end, but I spent a graceful hour there! Drinking elegantly alone without spending too much money or time is a fresh change of pace from the usual.

△... If you don't mind being alone on the terrace, it's fantastic because terrace seating is rare and you can enjoy the sense of openness. If you're not used to it, you might feel a bit restless!?
