My First Kindle Publication: "Messages Conveying the Joy of Publishing" Part 8 - Kotori-san
Hello, I am Yocchan, the director of the Kindle Library.
In this library, we value not only introducing books but also delivering information about Kindle publishing.
This time, I came up with a project to introduce Kindle authors who responded to my request: "Please share a message that conveys the joy of publishing and encourages those interested in Kindle publishing." and they kindly provided their messages.
They answered questions about what motivated them to publish, what was good about it, and what was difficult. Also, since some authors provide publishing support such as assistance or pre-publication monitoring, in those cases, I will introduce the details of their support along with their links.
You might be curious about who is providing what kind of support and how much it costs, right? I wanted to know myself, so I figured there must be others who want to know too! With that in mind, I will also be introducing publishing support services.
"It's fine to publish alone for 0 yen," "It's fine to receive support for a secure and reliable publication," "It's fine to just ask for help with the cover." Everyone's path should be different. I want to support many different forms of publishing.
Today is the 8th installment, featuring Kotori-san.
What kind of person is Kotori-san?
Kotori-san made her debut as a Kindle author in May 2021. While working full-time, she has written and published 23 books so far. (Amazing!) In addition to her own publishing, she is often involved in editing, proofreading, corrections, and data creation support for others, making her someone with a proven track record in Kindle publishing.
Previously, I introduced Kotori-san's book about living in two locations in this library.
I will now share the message that Kotori-san provided for those who are anxious or hesitant about their first publication, based on her own experiences.
1. What motivated Kotori-san to publish
While researching tips for photographing wild birds, I ended up on a photographer's YouTube channel. Reading the wild bird photo book that person published was what led me to realize that self-publishing was possible.
I had been sharing information on my website and blog for over 20 years, and I had always wanted to publish a book someday. Through trial and error, the first thing I published was a photo book of my beloved dog.
2. What was good about publishing and what changed
Since I started publishing guidebooks on Kindle publishing, I have had more opportunities to receive thank-you DMs from people who have read my books. I never imagined that my books could help encourage someone, so I was very happy.
3. What was difficult
There was a time when I was overwhelmed by the combination of my main job, writing, support work, and social media. Kindle publishing involves many things besides writing, such as creating covers and promoting.
It's great if you are good at those things, but there is also the option of outsourcing the areas you are not good at. I think it is important to think carefully about what is important to you and not to push yourself too hard.
4. Recommended points of Kindle publishing for those considering it
The fact that your own experience and knowledge can be useful to someone else, and that you can even earn an income from it, is more gratifying than you can imagine. Anyone can start Kindle publishing, at any age. If you are hesitant about publishing, I truly hope you will take that first step.
5. My Top Recommended Book
The perfect book for those who are worried, thinking, "I don't know what to write." I am sure that reading this book will spark some ideas for you.
The Book That Will Instantly Spark Your "Ideas"
It was easy to read, and I found myself reading it with excitement, thinking, "Oh, you can publish that kind of thing?" or "This could be a topic too!" I have read other Kindle books about content ideas before, but this one offered many different hints.
For example, it suggested that the process of your first Kindle publication is also a great topic. It felt like it was saying, "There are surely people who want to know 'what I struggled with' or 'what I didn't understand' when I published for the first time."It felt like it was saying that.
I felt, "Oh, I see. Maybe the stumbles unique to someone in their 50s, or the ignorance that comes from being an analog person that young people don't have, could be useful too." So, I thought it might be good to write about my experience of "Kindle publishing from age 50," which is what this Kindle library promotes. 😊
Please do take a look.
Of course, you can read it with Kindle Unlimited.
6. Recommended Books by Others
A book I want those who are about to start Kindle publishing to read.
The strategies of an author with long-selling books are introduced in this volume.
It is a great book that conveys a passionate spirit, with the author's words, "Publishing is not the end," really resonating with me.
3 New Common Sense Tips to Increase Royalties with Kindle Publishing!
This book focuses on aiming for long-sellers and securing royalties. Without denying what is commonly said out there, the author shows the behind-the-scenes of their own bestsellers and long-sellers, saying, "If you want to aim for a long-seller, look at this."
It means you have to do what you have to do. It powerfully states that if you do it, you will see results. "Doing" means taking action. Since Kindle publishing involves detailed work beyond just the manuscript, you need to keep polishing it while making revisions over and over. It notes that many people do not do this.
That's a tough pill to swallow. But since it makes clear what needs to be done, there is no need to be lost. It's all about putting it into practice.
This book can also be read with Kindle Unlimited💖
7. Coconala and Other Services
I offer services such as publishing support, paperback production agency, and paperback support.

"KDP" The History of Kindle Publishing
Finally, I would like to look at the journey of Kindle publishing so far.
October 2012: E-book publishing service launched
October 2021: Paper book publishing service launched
2021: Individual authors began to emerge
2023: AI, publishing support, and collaboration books have come to the forefront
And now, 2024. With more people offering publishing support, the range of services has expanded. As the number of authors grows, we are seeing a greater variety of books. This is my personal observation. Don't you agree?
It seems that publishing support has become more active since last year. It is said that this has led to an increase in the quality of books. Whether you choose to "complete the work on your own and level up with each book you publish" or "receive publishing support and incorporate the skills of experienced professionals to publish," I think it is wonderful that the options have expanded.
Moving forward, I will continue to share messages about how fun "Kindle publishing" is from active Kindle authors about once a week, so please look forward to it!💖
