[OWCC] Congratulations on the CR victory! A new map is coming too!
So, with OWCC now over,
there were a lot of things that happened, and I'd like to write down my thoughts on them.
Good luck with the match.
New Tokyo-themed map
Before my thoughts, regarding the
new Tokyo-themed map unveiled during the exhibition match.
It's a hybrid map.
It seems that, perhaps in response to King's Row's popularity,
they implemented a Tokyo map, which had been requested by users for a long time,
as a hybrid map.
Here are my first impressions.
Tokyo...?
Is this Tokyo? Or rather, is this Japan?
It felt like the Tokyo that people overseas imagine.
The atmosphere is, well...
It is what it is.
More importantly, as a map,
it looks quite intricate, with many poke points,
and many small rooms and detailed entry routes.
It seems like heroes who rely on headshots, especially snipers like Widowmaker and Hanzo, will be strong.
(Which means I think Junkrat will be strong too.)
Also, there's a place that looks like an overpass for a monorail that's easy for the defense to take midway,
and while it's easy to shoot down from there, it seems that trains pass by periodically and you can get run over.
(Taiyo-san recalled and got run over, didn't he?)
As for my personal impression,
I felt it was a map with a lot of information.
How should I put it, there are a lot of decorations?
and I felt like, 'This map is hard to see' while watching it.
But this might just be a matter of getting used to it, or it might be fun once you play it,
so I'm looking forward to its implementation!!!
Impressions of the OWCC as a whole.
It was extremely interesting, but what was particularly impressive about
this tournament
was that I was happy to see various team compositions.
I mean, I really didn't think Reinhardt would actually be played... (Happy)
How should I put it, the variety of strategies? Each team had its own unique color,
and it was interesting to watch as each team's version of OW.
Honestly, I thought it would just be all Mauga,
and that whoever was better at Mauga would win.
Well, as a result, CR, who were strong even with Mauga, won,
but Mauga was the core of this season, after all.
I felt that it didn't really feel like there was one dominant team.
In other areas, each team adapted and showed off their own strengths.
Especially in the finals, TWISTED MIND banned either the Bastion, the cat, or combo-part characters at key moments to prevent the cat-bus strategy
and it felt like they were making a difference there.
Also, something that personally caught my attention was
the fact that Ana's usage dropped significantly.
It seems that as we approached this OWCC, rather than Ana's
debuffs or damage output,
there was an impression that many compositions were focused on
the presence or absence of mobility skills, or perhaps a sense of speed and deployment capability.
(Though Zenyatta did pop up a little bit.)
Was it only on Ilios and Circuit that he appeared today in the Zeta vs. CR match?
I have the impression that his appearances have decreased a lot.
The higher-ranked the team, the more everyone picked heroes with some kind of mobility skill,
and I think that awareness was particularly high among the supports.
The finals.
It was intense.
Regarding the journey,
I never expected the undefeated Zeta to lose...
And CR, who beat Zeta to advance through the winners' bracket, ended up winning the championship...
Interesting.
Until last month, it felt like, 'Is there anyone who can beat Zeta?'
It was amazing that CR brought it to this level in about half a month.
I can't really put it into words, but
it felt like they overwhelmed the others with their high level of composition understanding and ability to develop plays.
And how many times has QUARTZ from TWIMAI blown my mind...
He's a monster.
That final map on Suravasa was insane, wasn't it?
He used his ULT twice at the first point, and after taking it, he already had 80% of his ULT charged again!!!???
That's just too much...
But what really stood out in the second half of the finals was CR's thorough targeting of QUARTZ.
His first deaths during team fights increased quite a bit.
I got the impression that JUNBIN's Ball had a huge influence on that.
He was applying so much pressure and landing his slams,
making it quite difficult for QUARTZ to survive.
Conversely, if QUARTZ was left free, he was on a level where he could do anything,
so I felt his presence was massive.
Of course, I think the team moves to support that ace,
so I believe CR also calculated that and thought about their compositions and bans accordingly.
What personally left an impression on me was the 'manly' composition TWIMAI brought out in overtime on King's Row:
Reinhardt, Symmetra, Sojourn, Baptiste, and Lucio.
I was laughing and getting super excited at the same time.
Especially right at the beginning, the TP to the high ground, and then after Reinhardt's barrier broke,
that manly rush.
This is it! The reason why Reinhardt exists!!!!!
Sacrifice your flesh to shatter their bones!!!!!
That was irresistible.
I mean, Symmetra really is strong in team battles, isn't she?
Moving the entire team to various positions + the ultimate split-up ULT.
Being able to do this is one of a kind.
And since you have the strongest hitscan there, too.
Of course it's going to be strong.
And just when I thought that, CR was the one to provide the answer.
That's amazing.
As I mentioned before, in the second half on Oasis, in the University map,
JUNBIN's Wrecking Ball went wild, stopping QUARTZ.
And then, stopping TVNT's D.Va, who was supposed to protect QUARTZ, with CHORONG's Kiriko, like that.
If anything, it felt like they were disabling TVNT, the backbone of Twimai,
and as a result, making it easier to take QUARTZ.
Honestly, OW is fun.
It really makes you feel that it is a team game.
It was the best final match.
Lastly.
It was a fun three days.
I got to see various compositions, and
I got to see the best individual skills and the best team play from the strongest players.
Probably, a new map is coming too.
If anything, it seems like a new character might come soon as well.
I'm glad that OW seems like it will be quite exciting this year.
I'm so glad... (crying)
I've been playing since the early days of OW and I've always loved it, but I thought it wasn't really catching on in Japan.
That's what I thought, but...
This year, there's a sign it's catching on... no, it IS catching on!!!!!
It's no exaggeration to say that!
For sure!!!!!
I'll be able to keep enjoying OW from here on out!!!!!!
Well, in other words, what I want to say is...
CR!!! Congratulations on the victory!!!! STALK3R! Congratulations! That's what I mean!!!
The end!!!!!!
