The Importance of the Extraordinary (What I Realized When the Air Conditioner Broke)
The remote control for the bedroom air conditioner broke!
I can operate the unit itself, but it's stuck on '24°C High' only.
That's impossible for someone like me who lives at a 29°C setting.
Since there is another air conditioner in the living room, I temporarily moved my sleeping quarters to the side of the dining table for a while.
That evening.
My husband came home earlier than usual.
"We need to decide where to sleep and get it set up, right?"
Huh. That would only take a minute.
From the time he was eating, he was looking over the floor and lost in thought.
When I told people this story,
some said things like,
"He's thinking about all sorts of things for his beloved wife,"
but I think it's
the excitement of dealing with an irregularity. It's imprudent, but some people get excited when a typhoon comes.
There are people at work who clearly look happy when the system goes down.
Come to think of it, camping is the same.
Even though people say it's about enjoying nature, jumping into such an inconvenient way of life on purpose is exactly this.
My love for staying at Toyoko Inn is similar.
It's clean and convenient, but cramped in some ways.
However, experiences like this lead to little discoveries and expand the imagination.
Example: What would happen if the living room air conditioner went out?
How would we handle eating and drinking in the bedroom?
(Isn't that an even more exciting case?!)
After all, doing things differently from the daily routine is a good stimulus.
If that opportunity doesn't arise, maybe I should create it myself.
That's it, today I'll try using my left hand for everything!
Postscript:
I consulted the manufacturer, but the remote control could not be restored. A new one would have to be ordered. And it cost 13,000 yen.
I checked Mercari and found the exact same one listed for 2,000 yen with next-day delivery. I bought it immediately!
