Questioning Common Sense: "Is That Really True?"
"Because it's common sense," "Because everyone else is doing it"
I have often felt that before we know it, we have trapped our own thoughts and feelings within those words.
"Isn't that obvious?"
"Isn't that just normal?"
Do you really believe that "obvious" thing?
Without realizing it,
we live our lives bound by
invisible chains
called common sense and assumptions.
These are things taught to us by our parents, our schools, and society
before we even knew it.
And before we knew it,
they became louder than our own voices.
How many times have I told myself
those words that seem like common sense at first glance?
But is that really "correct"?
Common sense is made up of "other people's voices"
"Because everyone is doing it,"
"Because that's just how it is."
With words like those,
how many people have set themselves aside?
Common sense is nothing more than "rules that were convenient for someone else."
As times change,
the correct answers change too.
What was unconventional yesterday
can become common sense today.
That is why
we must question common sense
andcast aside our assumptions,
otherwise we will end up just drifting
through the river of life.
There is no phrase more dangerous than "everyone is doing it"
Being the same as those around you gives you a sense of security.
Even so, there is no magic that stops your thinking
quite like the phrase "everyone is doing it."
For example,
"You're unstable if you're not a full-time employee,"
"You're only a full-fledged adult once you're married,"
"You're happier if you have children."
How many people have been tormented
by words like these?
Even if "everyone" is doing it,
you have your own pace.
You don't have to take someone else's version of happiness
and make it your own answer.
Assumptions are walls built by your "past self"
"I can't do it."
"That's just the kind of person I am."
Deciding things like that is also a classic case of a fixed mindset.
With past failures or words others have said still stinging in your heart,
are you giving up on your future too,
thinking, "It won't work out anyway"?
Does that really still apply to who you are today?
For you, who have grown, gained experience, and changed little by little,
old assumptions no longer fit.
By questioning, you become free.
Questioning common sense and letting go of fixed ideas
is by no means an act of "rebellion" or "denial."
It is an act of reclaiming "freedom"
for your own heart.
Instead of "what everyone thinks is right," you should choose
"what you can be convinced of."
Because you only need to believe in your own truth, not someone else's correct answer.
Make it a habit to ask yourself "Why?"
Questioning common sense is not resistance,
it is "reclaiming yourself."
Stop trying to fit in with others,
and carefully trace back, "Why do I think that way?"...
Repeating that process leads to a way of life that is true to you.
Things you are vaguely putting up with
Things you think because "that's just how it is"
The "true feelings" you always put on the back burner
Let's ask those things, "Is that really true?"
The "new common sense" that has been sleeping within you
will begin to quietly wake up.
"Questioning common sense" does not mean
denying others.
It simply means
deciding for yourself how you want to be happy.
Stop living by other people's standards,
and have the courage to decide with your own heart.
Your "Is that really true?"
creates an easier way to live.
When each and every one of us
"has their own core"
in that way, the common sense of society as a whole will change little by little.
"Today, too,
I will not swallow someone else's words whole,
but stay true to my own heart."
Because what you think is "unconventional" today
might become the "new common sense" of the future.
Thank you for reading until the end.

May I gently support your "unconventional" first step.
