Misunderstanding Athletics [Weekly Short-Short Note]
Lately, my boyfriend is prone to misunderstandings.
When we watch TV and a K-pop idol appears, he asks me, "Is this the kind of guy you like?" Every time, I tell him, "It's a misunderstanding, I was just watching." At first, I thought it was jealousy, but it didn't take long for me to realize the truth.
"Do you like athletics?"
I had just been staring blankly at the TV, so I hadn't even noticed that the screen had switched to an athletics program.
Startled, I said to my boyfriend,
"Misunderstanding, misunderstanding, misunderstanding, misunderstanding, misunderstanding, I don't like athletics."
"You said 'misunderstanding' five times. Saying 'misunderstanding' five times just because it's a misunderstanding—do you like dad jokes?"
"It's a misunderstanding. I can't do this anymore. Let's break up." I ended up saying those final words without thinking.
"I understand. Thanks for everything until now."
Leaving those words behind, my boyfriend walked out.
A few days after breaking up with him, being alone made me realize that I actually did love him.
I picked up my smartphone and called him.
"I'm sorry. I misunderstood."
"I'm sorry, too."
