Long-Distance Relationships for Sale [Weekly Short-Short Note]

It happened when I visited a certain remote island.

I spotted a wooden sign that read, "Long-Distance Relationships for Sale."

As I was staring at it, a beautiful girl with long hair wearing a white dress appeared from behind the sign.

After giving a slight bow, the beautiful girl smiled a bit shyly and spoke to me.

"Um... would you like a long-distance relationship?"

"What exactly does that mean?"

"Exactly what it says. I sell long-distance relationships."

"So, you mean I pay money to have a long-distance relationship?"

"Yes. Most people who come to this island end up going back to the mainland, so I thought, why not have a long-distance relationship through letters and emails!"

"I understand. In that case, let's have a long-distance relationship, you and I."

I, who had no girlfriend, replied.

"Thank you so much!"

The beautiful girl beamed with a smile, went back into the house, and brought out an old man.

"Grandpa, this person says they'll have a long-distance relationship with me."

"Ho, a fine person indeed. To have a long-distance relationship with me... what a wonderful souvenir to take to the afterlife."
