The Ultimate Movement Gained Through Martial Arts Meditation (Short Video)

One day, about a month after I began martial arts meditation, I touched upon the 'core of movement' during a deep meditation—something I had never been able to capture in words before. As my breathing naturally quieted and my thoughts became transparent, my body began to move simply in the way it was meant to, much like a wild animal. There was no intention of 'I will move this way' or 'I will execute this technique,' yet it was not 'lack of intention' either. The movement simply manifested itself. Weight and lightness, speed and slowness—none of these belonged to me; they were harmonizing as part of nature. I was not the one moving; I was the movement itself.

This experience is on a dimension that can never be reached through conventional training. Of course, reaching this point might require many years of discipline or a certain kind of good fortune. It is a crystal formed by the days I spent understanding the body, knowing the breath, and continuously gazing into the depths of consciousness, all converging at a single point. For me, meditation and martial arts were always the same thing; they just differed in the direction of their expression. Turning inward or turning outward. In this moment, I understood with my body the paradox that this difference is actually everything, and yet it is no difference at all.

This 'movement' is too subtle to convey as a technique, and the more I try to explain it in words, the further the core slips away. Still, wanting to convey it somehow, I recorded the movement in a video. Visually, it might seem plain compared to things like dance. However, the center of gravity of the entire body is constantly being optimized, maintaining a balance that allows for 'hakkei' (emitting energy) at any moment. There is no particular flashiness on the surface. But it is precisely within that stillness that the essence of martial arts (the functionality of offense and defense as one) resides.

I do not know what people will feel when they watch this video. But if they can notice the stillness behind the movement, they might be able to feel that it is not merely a performance, but a movement born from meditation as 'true self-defense.' I am releasing this video, betting on that slight possibility. Not to compete, but to share the essence of the martial way. Because, ultimately, martial arts is a path that embodies a single universal principle where there is no separation between self and other.
