Everything is a Trial to Become Better
"It's not going well."
"Things aren't going as planned."
"My efforts aren't being rewarded."
At times like that, I would inevitably think, "Why me?" However, beyond that question, I found only dissatisfaction and anger, not understanding.
What if we changed our perspective just a little bit? Instead of viewing the events occurring as "things that make me suffer," try viewing them as "trials to make me better." When you do that, even if the reality is the same, its meaning changes significantly.
A trial is not just suffering. Originally, it is a state of being tested. Your way of being, your attitude, and everything you have built up until now are being questioned. Depending on how you respond to that question, you change. Or, to be more precise, you move closer to your true self.
There are things you cannot see when things are going smoothly. There are habits and distortions you cannot notice when you have room to spare. There are things that only come to the surface when you are pushed into a corner. That is why trials have meaning. They are not just obstacles, but like a mirror reflecting who you are now.
Of course, it is not just about enduring. If you are crushed by suffering, growth is out of the question. What is important is not the situation itself, but how you handle it. Do not resist too much, do not run away too much, but do not be swept away either. While maintaining that sense of moderation, do the best you can right now.
Then, strangely enough, the path begins to open up little by little. Things that felt heavy at first eventually begin to feel light. There is a version of yourself that can move naturally in situations where you couldn't move before. That is proof that your inner self has changed, rather than the outer situation changing.
People cannot become strong just by being comfortable. They cannot become deep just by being kind. Because there is a certain amount of load and friction, flexibility and core strength are nurtured. Just as a sword is forged, people are also polished through trials.
That is why you should not immediately deny the events in front of you. Do not try to eliminate them immediately. No matter what form it takes, there is a possibility that it is trying to bring you something. The meaning is often understood later, but at the very least, you can perceive it as "this is not a waste."
As you go through each trial in this way, you change little by little. You become calmer, softer, and stronger than before. That change may not be flashy, but it definitely accumulates.
You will only realize it when you look back. That it is because of the suffering at that time that you are who you are now. That there is a view you saw only because you faced it without running away at that time.
Everything is a trial to become better. When you perceive it that way, there are no wasted events in life. And that perspective itself becomes a quiet, certain power to keep moving forward in any situation.
