The good points of note 💛 Differences from Ameblo

Many of the members doing morning activities with me say, 'I gave up on Ameblo, but I can keep going with note because it's fun.' Since I'm often asked about the differences between note and Ameblo, I've summarized them here.

What makes note easy

1. Even 'tweet' posts count toward your consecutive update streak

I think it's great and easy that even 'tweet' posts of under 140 characters count toward your consecutive update streak.

On days when I'm providing technical support for online training, I have to start up Zoom before 8:00 AM, and it takes up the whole day... After it's over, I don't have the energy to write long articles 💦

Being able to just take a photo with my smartphone and post it as a tweet makes it easy to keep going with a light heart, doesn't it? 💛

2. 'Junk' posts are actually preferred

People tend to think that with a blog, 'you have to write useful information.'

On other blog services like Ameblo, I also write only useful information, one theme per blog. Posts like photos of food or diary-style entries are sometimes called 'junk posts,' aren't they? 💦

On note, posts with photos of food tend to gather a lot of 'likes' 💛

Even if they only 'liked' the food photo at first... 'Popular posts by this creator' are displayed below the tweet post.

There are quite a few people who will also read some of my past popular articles. That's why it's fine for the initial hook to be a tweet post.

If you only write stiff articles in your own field of expertise, people who aren't interested tend to think, 'This has nothing to do with me.'

While you continue to post things that convey your personality... I think it's fine if they just notice, 'Oh, there are articles like this too,' and read them when they become interested.

The fact that what is called a 'junk post' on Ameblo and similar sites is actually preferred on note is a major difference.

3. It's okay if you can't create your own images 💛

One of my morning activity friends who gave up on Ameblo once said, 'It's great that you don't have to create your own images on note.'

note's 'Everyone's Photo Gallery' is a really great system, isn't it? 💛 Even if you can't create images yourself, you can freely use registered images for your article headers.

The author's name and a link are displayed below the image used for the article's header.
It's great that images can be utilized in a way that properly protects copyright 💛

For creators who register illustrations or photos, this also leads to having their work seen by more people ◎

Why note is fun even if you gave up on Ameblo

I participate in a morning activity group that meets on Clubhouse every morning at 5:00 AM.

All the members of the morning activity group write on note. Moreover, most of them say, "I gave up on Ameblo."

Reasons for giving up on Ameblo

When I ask why they gave up on Ameblo... they say, "Because there's no reaction."

Even if you follow others yourself, you don't get followed back much. Many of the people who do follow you are often from industries like consulting, looking for customers within Ameblo 💦

It's discouraging when there's no reaction, isn't it...

Reason 1 why note is fun: There is a reaction

If you ask why note is fun, it's because there is a reaction no matter what!

When you post, you get likes and comments. If you follow someone, many people will follow you back. There are a lot of active users.

Reason 2 why note is fun: note praises your small achievements

When you post a new article on note, it notifies you of your consecutive posting streak.

Every time you achieve something, you get a badge 💛

It tells you when you've reached a milestone post, and note praising your small achievements really helps with motivation ✨

People I met through Ameblo used to tell me, 'Shimomayu-san, you don't write junk posts, do you?'

Those who knew me from 'Convenient Guide to Image Editing' or 'Ameblo Creation Course for Absolute Beginners' on Ameblo, which were selected as popular blogs in Weekly Diamond, seem to have the impression that I share useful information.

A blog born from the inner cry of 'I want to write junk posts!'

About 10 years ago, when I started being called 'Power Blogger Shimomayu-san,' I had increasing opportunities to be invited to events where bloggers gathered.

I started participating in various blogger events in addition to official Ameblo events. However, when information about blogger events increased on a blog that was centered on useful information for Ameblo beginners... it became unclear what kind of blog it was 💦

This blog was born from my inner cry of 'I want to write junk posts!' such as posts about interacting with others when attending events ↓

Actually, I was writing several times more junk posts than useful information

The first blog I started in January 2005 is 'Shimomayu's Photo Diary'.

This blog currently has 3,265 posts. Over 80% are food-related posts, and after starting this blog, I realized, 'I really do love eating' (laughs).

I just counted, and 'Convenient Guide to Image Editing' has a total of 309 posts.

'Ameblo Creation Course for Absolute Beginners' had a total of 317 posts.

The idea that I don't write junk posts is ridiculous! Actually, I was writing several times more junk posts than useful information (laughs).

A blog that maintained over 100,000 monthly PVs while neglected for several years

Until now, I have operated over 10 blogs with one theme per blog. When you create blogs by theme, you can subdivide categories.

It is easier to find what you need if you organize and store things: books on bookshelves, clothes in a chest, and food in the refrigerator. The same goes for blogs; it is easier to get searched if you subdivide categories with one theme per blog ◎

'Convenient Guide to Image Editing' and 'Ameblo Creation Course for Absolute Beginners' maintained over 100,000 monthly PVs via search engines like Google and Yahoo! for about 5 to 6 years, I believe.

Since past articles are being searched and read, it was being read by so many people even when left neglected.

What note means to me

note isn't just a blog, is it? Of course, you can post articles just like a blog. It is a media platform where you can post various types of content, including images, videos, and short status updates.

I have managed blogs and social media accounts by theme in the past, but... I believe note is a place where I can express various sides of the real-life "Shimomayu".

I am currently active as an instructor and writer, but... I originally came from an art college background. I started note with the desire to share content such as my photography work as a creator.

The decisive difference between note and Ameblo

The decisive difference between note and Ameblo, in my opinion, is that things like food photos or diary-style posts, which are often called "junk posts" on Ameblo, are actually preferred here.

When I write a new article, I post it to a closed Facebook community.

When I see people reporting their article updates in groups with many Ameblo users, I honestly think, "Ameblo seems tough." Because on Ameblo, there is this pressure that you "must write solid, useful information for your readers."

Junk posts are a trigger for building connections

On Ameblo, posts that convey about 20% of your personality are considered good, but... I think that on note, it's fine if about half of your posts convey your professional expertise and the other half convey your personality.

I think people who only post serious content about their field of expertise are amazing, but... it feels like they are getting straight to the point without any ice-breaking. 💦

On note, posts that convey your personality are also necessary. If you don't post any short updates at all, I think the response will be weak. It feels like listening to someone who is wearing a mask.

Smartphone photos posted as short updates tend to get likes easily. Then, below the post, that creator's popular posts are displayed. People who are interested will also read the popular articles written about your professional field. It's good to think of junk posts as a way to create a trigger for people to become interested in you.

If you're starting now, note or Ameblo?

I started my Ameblo "Convenient Guide to Image Editing" in July 2005.

My blog "Ameblo Creation Course for Absolute Beginners" was opened in 2006. Every time a new Ameblo feature was released, I wrote articles with the motto of being "faster and easier to understand than anyone else."

At that time, there were no books on Ameblo yet. I put the most effort into updating my Ameblo when the number of Ameblo users exceeded 1 million. I feel that the current note is similar to those days when Ameblo started to become popular.

I am who I am today because I started Ameblo early and gained recognition. Thanks to Ameblo, I was able to connect with many business owners and book authors. I am grateful to Ameblo 💛

But now, many books on Ameblo have been published, and blogs explaining how to use Ameblo have increased. The number of people doing Ameblo consulting has also increased, and it has become a red ocean.

If you have already been doing Ameblo for a long time and it is leading to work, I think you should continue as you are.

If you are going to start now... it is certain that you can expect more response on note. I really think there is a right time to enter a market.
