DJ JIN’s Selection For Soul Matters (Feb.21, 2016)
*This article has been reposted from the Soul Matters Tumblr I used previously.

It's Growing /Merv Murphy (Simmons)
A crossover soul masterpiece likely released in the 1970s from a label run by a Chicago blues legend. The vocal work teaches you what 'gentle' really means, and the female chorus that highlights and responds to it is superb. Combined with a rich arrangement featuring horns and strings, it's a winner.

Domecrackers EP /DJ Spinna (Jazzy Sport)
A test pressing I received from Jazzy Sport the other day. An EP with a cosmic sound approach by the familiar Mr. Spinna. With both vocals and rap, every track is a good job. It's a record that will be officially released soon, and every time I play it, someone always asks, 'Who is this?'

Loud Mouth / Philip Cohran And The Artistic Heritage Ensemble (Zulu)
A precious jazz-funk record from the 1960s. An ensemble led by Philip Cohran, who was active in Sun Ra's orchestra. The horn section that would later become Earth, Wind & Fire was also part of this group. The electric kalimba played by Master Philip was, of course, a direct influence on Maurice White. Essential.
