Even Without Teaching, We Connect in the End: 13 Stories Written by My Child and the Reason I Wanted to Keep Writing on Note

A story about my second-grade child.

The other day,
my child took
a stack of papers out of their school bag.

They immediately came over,
saying "Look, look!"
with a beaming smile.

-- Ah, this must be something very precious --

What was handed to me was
a booklet made by
pasting several sheets of manuscript paper onto
drawing paper.

There was no printing
on the cover,
just a picture my child had drawn themselves.

As I flipped through the booklet,
it seemed to be a story.

The first page

listed the story title,
the two main characters,
and the plot.

-- Elementary schools today do so many things we didn't do back in the day --

I turned the pages with excitement.

I read aloud,
following the characters written by my husband and child with my eyes.

The story
unfolds.

Just when I thought it was over,
there was another development,

and before I knew it, I was absorbed in reading it.

The total length was 13 pages of manuscript paper!

When did
they become able to write this much?

At first, they could barely manage one page of a weekend diary,

and far from teaching them how to write,
I just said, "Just write something and turn it in."
That's what I said.

Seeing that they are walking on their own two feet
comes through to me,

and it leaves me with an indescribable feeling.

While doing that, at the end,
I was asked, "Hey, if I turn this into an article,
do you think anyone would buy it?"

It seems,
they want to try it out on note.

Back when there was reluctance to go to school,
what I thought.

I wanted to find something I could do at home
and give it some form.

Then,

even if this child couldn't go to school,

"Even at home,
you can do anything."

I could tell them that, right?

Thinking that way,
is why I started note.

And now,
they are attending school for the time being, and might connect with note in this way.

When I think about that,
I still get an indescribable feeling.

I think I will try publishing
the stories my child wrote.

Since I can't imagine
what will happen, I'm just excited✨
