Weekly Short-Short Note: Secret Prompt ①

"Oh, so that's what it was!"
My mother, who was operating her smartphone, shouted.
"You know how they say 'two-out, bases-loaded' in baseball? I thought it was 'two done,' but it's actually 'two down.' I'm hopeless at both baseball and English, oh dear."
I'm not sure myself if it's empathy or a competitive spirit that makes me want to share even more trivial stories at times like this.
"Listen to this, Mom. If that's the case, then I have one too. You know how there are titles like Marquess or Count? I used to think they were written with the kanji for 'crimson' and 'white'—like a singing competition or something."
Then, unexpectedly, my mother replied with a straight face.
"Listen to me, you must remember that correctly. Our family was granted an honorable status during the Meiji Restoration. The Duke families, who are our peers, wield the power of fire. The Marquess families wield the power of water. The Viscount and Baron families generate energy through solar, wind, and biomass to serve the world. At the very least, learn the correct kanji."

For some reason, I felt cornered.
