Why do people yearn to be ballerinas? While imagining myself speaking English fluently, cracking jokes, and getting laughs, I neglect steady effort and shrink away whenever I see a foreigner, my mind going completely blank! Even if that were the case, could I get by with cramming the night before a test if it were just English? But when it comes to ballet, isn't it the height of audacity to want to dance while neglecting daily practice and skipping dieting?
But the times were kind beyond measure.
A lower-body-dancing-machine for ballet experiences—not quite an automatic translator for the ballet world—was installed at the theme park. All that was left was the upper-body performance. I put my own toe shoes on the dancing machine, sat cross-legged on a chair at home, and practiced the choreography, hiding my real legs under a skirt for the actual performance. Unexpectedly, the toe shoes became infatuated with the dancing machine.
"Are you sure? You'll just be worn out and thrown away," the shoe retorted defiantly.
"He promised to cherish me. He even said that if it comes down to it, he has your original legs properly secured," it replied.
