"Is this the ruin where ghosts are rumored to appear?"
As I bluffed while feeling terrified, my friend hummed and poked at the tangled ivy with his cane.
"It's a building from the EDO period."
Is it that old?
"Back then, they laid out futons on tatami mats. Nowadays, we use simple beds."
My sense of time wavered, and I was overcome with dizziness.
"Hey, what is this? Is it a staircase?"
Then,
"Don't touch that!"
I was held back. Looking at it from the side, it was shaped like a pyramid cut vertically. It had the same depth and featured drawer pulls in a square pattern.
"This is where the sightings are reported night after night. It's a chest that utilizes the space under the stairs."
What is a chest?
"A chest is something that was used as furniture in an era before closets existed."
When I put my hand on the pull, a box came out.

There was a communication device.
"It seems he couldn't move on because he had regrets about the 'old man-style' text messages left in his history."
What is an 'old man'? There were too many things I didn't understand, and I lost the will to ask. It's the way of the world that one evolves into an old man after fully enjoying being a young man, right?
