What I Realized at 22 km/h in My 50s (#4)
The other day, I arrived in Oguni Town, Kumamoto Prefecture, by motorcycle to visit a friend.
It was a trip on a bike I've been riding for two and a half years.

For this day, I had it inspected half a month ago and even replaced the tires with new ones.
This time, the daily distance was nearly 700 km, the longest in my life.
Although it was almost entirely highway travel, I could see the beautiful Seto Inland Sea from the road.

While riding, various things crossed my mind.
I have left my life as a salaryman and started walking a path I decided on myself, in line with my own values.
I want to be useful to people in their 50s who are struggling with life.
I wanted to confirm once more if that decision was the right one for me.
I thought that if I stepped away from my daily life and went to a completely unknown place, I might be able to reaffirm it, so I came here.
I was thinking about such things while riding my bike. I had about 20 km left until I arrived.
The moment I looked at the meter, suddenly, the engine stopped responding to the throttle.
Huh?
The speed kept dropping. It wouldn't go any faster than 22 km/h.
I never expected something like this to happen.
After all, I had been well-prepared.
I called the dealer, got instructions for emergency measures, and somehow managed to reach my old friend's house.

The next day, it was decided that the bike would be transported to a local dealer about 60 km away.
When you can't return by bike, thankfully, they said they would support everything, including travel expenses for the return trip and the cost of transporting the bike.

Only when you decide for yourself and take action does something happen.
I am realizing this obvious fact right now.
If it were the old me, I would have definitely thought, 'I'm so unlucky, this is the worst.'
But now, I can think that it was good the trouble happened near my friend's house.
After all, I was able to meet my friend.

If the trouble had happened on a highway far away, even if I didn't have to worry about the return costs, I wouldn't have been able to see my friend.
Therefore, I am lucky.
Being able to see things from a different perspective than before, naturally,
I felt I had grown because I could remain calm even when trouble arose.
