Happy Halloween—Okame is Coming|Diary
I love events. Because I love making my friends laugh.
Yesterday was Halloween.
I had the idea to make some sweets and give them to my friends.
I made chestnut paste, a specialty from my hometown, and paired it with bagels.
I thought donuts might be more Halloween-y, but since I'd be delivering them at night, I didn't want to be responsible for any calorie-bomb casualties. Some of my friends have weddings coming up next month.
In that regard, bagels are excellent. They don't use butter or oil, and they only need a little sugar to activate the yeast. Plus a pinch of salt. Even with just those ingredients, they are so satisfying! I love bagels.

I was distributing them to five friends living within a 30-minute drive, plus my husband.
Since I was going to the trouble of delivering them, I thought I'd dress up a little, so I stopped by the Halloween section at Daiso.
I was surprised by the high quality of the zombie mask I found there.
The eyeballs were popping out, the skin was peeling off the face—it was gross and scary.
(They'll be so surprised by this, hehe) I thought, but when I picked up the mask and looked at it up close, it looked even more ominous, and I started thinking, (If I have this, my luck might run away), so I decided not to buy it.
Instead, I bought an "Okame" mask from the Setsubun section.
However, this "Okame" mask ended up working wonders.
At night, the pure white face with its gentle smile seems to reflect light and give off a bizarre vibe, so every friend who opened the door would freeze and take a half-step back with a look of shock.
I had left the house without checking my appearance in a mirror, so I asked my friend Lily, "Is it really that scary?" and she said, "It's terrifying!!!" and took a photo to show me.
Whoa, that's scary!!!

I said, "Trick or Treat~~" while handing over a bag filled with sweets that had "THANK YOU ALWAYS" written on it.
"Wait, you're the one giving me something?! (Looks inside) Oh, it's homemade! ♡" said Lily.
We said our thank-yous and parted ways. What a peaceful Halloween.
—A digest of the rest of Halloween—

I couldn't find Sumire's (a friend from high school) house and was wandering around the residential area when I was discovered by Sumire on her way home from work. "It's a homecoming prank!!"
At Nanohana's (a friend from back home) house, I made her child cry. Sorry. We made up and watched "Butt Detective" together. Kids are amazingly adaptable.
Hibiscus (a friend from college) froze and went, "Eek!", but she gave me some sweets right away, so when I asked, "Did you know I was coming for Halloween?", she said she had forgotten about Halloween entirely. Come to think of it, Hibiscus is the type of person who always gives out sweets by default.
Augusta (my husband's childhood friend) had a birthday yesterday, so I thought I'd do Halloween too while my husband and I went over to deliver his gift, but when I stormed the house, I was met with a costume.
Instead, I managed to surprise Augusta's mom. (She complimented me for some reason.)
This is why I love events.
I try to make people laugh, but I end up being the one laughing.
Next up are Christmas and the New Year holidays. Actually, I'm already steadily plotting... I'm getting fired up.
